Vacancy - Kitchen Assistant *********

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our culinary team for the season. Hours would be flexible depending on availability.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and a desire to learn in a fast-paced kitchen environment. This role is essential in supporting the kitchen staff with meal preparation, food safety, and ensuring that the kitchen operates smoothly. Previous experience in catering or restaurant settings is advantageous but not mandatory.

Responsibilities
Assist in the preparation of meals and ingredients, ensuring high standards of food quality and presentation.
Support chefs with cooking tasks, including chopping, slicing, and cooking various ingredients.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, adhering to food safety regulations.
Help with serving meals during busy periods, ensuring timely delivery to customers.
Participate in inventory management by assisting with stock rotation and storage of food items.
Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
Follow all health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
Requirements

Previous experience in a kitchen or restaurant setting is preferred but not essential.
Knowledge of food safety practices and culinary techniques is beneficial.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
A passion for cooking and willingness to learn new skills related to meal preparation and catering.

Honestly… we are completely overwhelmed.

From opening our doors in 2021 during Covid, to standing here tonight representing our wee shop in John O’Groats on a national stage — it’s hard to put into words what this means to us.
