OUR PHONE LINES ARE DOWN

Temp number: 07983 433997

Thursday 23rd July, our phone line went down, mid call! BT won’t send an engineer until Monday.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
if you called and left a message, we won’t have been able to access this since yesterday afternoon. If you call us now, you may either get our voicemail, or perhaps a neighbour (I kid you not, I just tested the line and someone in the village answered!! My mobile said I was connected to the landline here, but somehow it rang another property?!)

This is a shambles on the behalf of BT, but they cannot offer call diverts for us.

We will try to get hold of a PAYG sim and set that up this afternoon.

In the meantime, please visit our website for any queries - you can book tables, buy gift vouchers, see our menus etc.

I’ll be checking socials and emails regularly so will try to respond asap.

Thanks for your understanding!

We embarked on this dream 5 years ago. Looking back to this time in 2021, we had sold everything, moved in temporarily into my parents, and I (Cecily) was heavily pregnant with our second child, mid heatwave, wondering if the sale of the property would go through … and wondering how on earth we were going to figure this all out!

We had a dream, to open our restaurant, to build a home for the boys, to renovate and open the holiday cottage, and of course… to start growing our own food.

In February 2022, we built the first raised beds in the back garden, which is what you see from the restaurant. We didn’t initially have anyone working in the garden, it was Pete and I, and a toddler and a newborn 😮‍💨

Fast forward, and we now have not just the space here, but a 5 acre field down the road… and in that time, we’ve been slowly but surely growing… in more ways than one. Sunday was such a moment, to say that everything sat next to that beef and Yorkshire pud was grown here 🌱🧡

We will continue to do our best to grow, to support local businesses, and support this wonderful community that we are so fortunate to live and work in.

All the little things we do behind the scenes…

We are always trying to think of ways to reduce, reuse or recycle. One of the biggest soft plastics issue we have is drinks that come wrapped in the stuff! We are working on ways to combat this… finding suppliers that send in full cardboard boxes (thank you , , , , , , to name just a few!)

If anyone knows of suppliers of bottled water that are plastic free, or tonics then please let me know! We hope to be able to afford an in house water carbonation system in the future, but for now… we simply save all the soft plastic, and when we venture to Whitby, we take it all to either Co-op or Sainsbury’s to their recycling drop off point ♻️

Do you save soft plastic to recycle? Did you know these supermarkets take it back?

Here’s a little photo carousel dump… in no particular order, things I’ve picked my phone up to capture!

Mainly veg, flowers, food and more veg!! With one family photo at the end for luck 🧡

Running a small business means wearing many hats, and while some restaurants have PR firms working hard to create content for them, it’s just little old me with my new phone strap, trying to capture what I can while I’m working, or mothering, or both!!

Sometimes I feel like because I can’t create something polished, or “trending” or exciting, I don’t show up here at all… but in the spirit of letting go abit… you might see more of this sort of stuff while we juggle it all 🧡

Have a wonderful weekend whatever you have planned!

HOMESTEAD NEGRONI / WHITBY GIN / MORADOS YORKSHIRE VERMOUTH

Our most popular aperitif just got a local glow up. We’ve always been big fans of Whitby Distillery, who have graced our bar shelf since we opened almost 5 years ago. When the folks from Morados dropped round a sample recently, we added this into the mix straight away. Made locally, supporting the people that love the area as much as we do.

Are you a negroni lover? I never was… but this combo has totally won me over. The perfect start to your summertime feasts at the Homestead 🧡

Sunny Sunday

Me and the boys were in the back garden today, when they spotted across the neighbours fields… that our field was getting baled today! I’ve never seen them get shoes and hats on so fast, and insisted we get down there to watch. Our lovely local farmers were mowing and baling (carefully around the ever growing veg patch!) - the field is 5 acres, and as yet, we aren’t planting that much!

We sat and watched, the careful work, the neat little bales dropping out the back, which will be used for horses to eat. Once they’d left, we watered the veg and they played at making their own bales with the leftover dry grass.

I eventually convinced them home for lunch by around 2.30pm, and convinced they would have happily played all day down there. It’s an absolute privilege to have this space this year, more veg, more adventures.

Hoping you’ve all had a wonderful weekend 🌞 we are closed now until Wednesday… see you then!
