One year on from upgrading The Old Thatched Cottage with its additional thatched roof — and we couldn’t be happier with the result.

The construction of the new roof took around a fortnight, starting with Somerton-based family contractors R. J. Wright & Son creating a timber frame on top of the existing flat roof, before experienced master tradesman Richard Wright put his traditional skills to good use adding the thatched roof, which perfectly complements that of the adjacent historic cottage.

We’re also incredibly proud to have received recognition from the Weston-super-Mare Civic Society for:

“The replacement of the flat roof with a pitched thatched roof, matching the existing, unifying the site’s appearance in a very positive and pleasant manner.”

A wonderful acknowledgement of traditional craftsmanship and thoughtful restoration.
