I’ve just dropped off some local, Ducks Hill Farm honey, from the hives here at the farm. The vending machine Ducks Hill Farm Eggs is now restocked. I managed to pick up some delicious, soy free eggs (blue box) too. Just what I needed for lunch 🥪 on another busy day. Free range eggs from happy hens 💕

Observed today on my walkabout checking Yellow Legged Asian Hornet Monitoring stations. A beautiful specimen of a European Hornet. These are the gentle giants of the insect world, measuring about 2.5cm-3.5cm, queens are larger. Much bigger than a wasp which is on the right of the photo. Look how different these native species look, compared to the non native Yellow Legged Asian Hornets. This Yellow Legged Asian Hornet awareness week 7th-13th September, pause and listen to the buzz. Ivy is flowering and it’s a perfect place to spot our pollinators. Here are some images I took when I had a brief look this morning. Honeybees, bumblebees, ivy mining bees, hover flies, flies, wasps and more, are all busy buzzing about. Ivy flowers are also a perfect place to spot Yellow Legged Asian Hornets if they are in the area. Take a few minutes to stop and observe. If you think you’ve seen YLAH then take a photo and upload it to Asian Hornet Watch app, or send it to the National Bee Unit, or your local beekeeper to identify. Most of us are verifiers in our local areas. Sadly if this non native species isn’t stopped, we won’t hear the buzz for much longer…

I’m taking part in this event tomorrow, with some other Harrow Beekeepers. Come along and find out about beekeeping in your local area. As it’s Yellow Legged Hornet awareness week 7th to 13th of September. We will also be handing out posters and raising awareness about the threat Yellow Legged Asian Hornet is for all our pollinators, not just honeybees. Come along and find us at pitch no 37, near the children’s playground. Lots of local honey, from local beekeepers, and honey and beeswax products for sale. 📍 Pinner Memorial Park

A fantastic day at our local Honey Show in Headstone Manor. A total of 134 exhibits from our association members and some prizes for Kevin and me. It’s been a very busy few days with lots of preparation. I was delighted to win the Blue Ribbon Award for best honey in show 2026 🍯🐝🍯🐝 It’s a shame that my first place Marmalade was stolen from the bench 😮. Paddington bear must have been on the loose….
