We are really looking forward to attending a weekend of community fun organised by Godmanchester Community Association next weekend (3rd-5th of July) at the recreation ground. Thank you to everyone who attending our very first SEN family day Godmanchester Community Plant Nursery & Cafe on Saturday. It was a fantastic event in the most beautiful setting. We are so pleased to be able to host such an impactful event for our community.

☀️ RED EXTREME HEAT WARNING ☀️

The Met Office has issued a Red Extreme Heat Warning covering Cambridgeshire. This is the highest level of heat warning and means there is a risk to life, even for healthy people.

The warning is in place from 9am on Wednesday until 9pm on Thursday.

What does this mean?

• Temperatures could reach or exceed 37°C.
• Night-time temperatures may remain above 20°C, meaning little relief from the heat.
• Increased pressure on health services and transport networks is possible.
• Older people, young children, pregnant women and those with underlying health conditions are particularly at risk.

Please take sensible precautions:

💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
🏠 Keep homes cool by closing blinds and curtains during the hottest hours.
🌳 Avoid strenuous activity and seek shade between 11am and 3pm.
🚗 Never leave children, vulnerable adults or pets in vehicles.
❤️ Check on family, friends and neighbours, particularly anyone who may be elderly or vulnerable.

The Recreation Ground and other green spaces can provide pleasant outdoor environments, but please remember that prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can quickly lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

Deputy Mace Bearer – Volunteer Opportunity

Godmanchester Town Council is looking for a Deputy Mace Bearer to support the civic life of our town.

Our current Mace Bearer, Stephen Wakeman, is a fundamental volunteer of the Council and plays an important role in representing the dignity, history and traditions of Godmanchester.

A Mace Bearer is a ceremonial role. The mace itself is a symbol of the authority of the Council and is carried at formal civic occasions, including civic events, parades, commemorations and other important town ceremonies.

This is a unique and honourable volunteer position, offering someone the opportunity to support the town, take part in civic occasions and help uphold an important local tradition.

Becoming a Deputy Mace Bearer is a real honour to the town and a valued way to contribute to the community.

Last week saw the installation of a very special memorial bench on the Recreation Ground in memory of Jamie Covington.
Many members of the Godmanchester community generously supported Jamie’s Quest, while others knew Jamie and his family personally. We are honoured to have this beautiful bench in place as a lasting tribute to Jamie and a place for reflection and remembrance.
A heartfelt thank you goes to A&K Builders, who generously installed the bench free of charge. Their kindness and support have helped create a meaningful memorial that will be appreciated by the community for years to come.
Jamie’s Quest for lifesaving cancer treatment continues to raise awareness of childhood cancers in his memory, and in loving memory of Jamie.
