A whole load of recent bits, pre and post birth, and of course some great food. Our baby girl is two weeks old and it’s been such a whirlwind of sleepless nights, chaotic feeding routines and countless cuddles. The hormones are REAL, she just opens her eyes and I burst into tears 😅 Colic sucks, breastfeeding has honestly felt like such a chore at times, and most of the time I have absolutely no idea what day it is.

But amongst all the craziness, there has been so much love. Family visits, delicious nourishing food, tiny newborn cuddles and the strange but beautiful feeling of having nothing else to do but be present and soak it all in.

I’m so aware of how fleeting these moments are and how quickly she’s changing already. Two weeks in and somehow it feels like she’s always been here, struggling to remember life before our tiny little milk monster! 🤣🤍

I shared so much of my pregnancy journey on here, so it felt only right to share my birth story too and because I think we need more positive but real stories out there. Not because every birth should look the same, or that there’s one ‘right’ way to give birth, but because we deserve to hear more stories that leave women feeling informed, empowered and hopeful.

And I know that isn’t everyone’s experience. Birth is unpredictable, and every body, baby and birth is different. Sometimes things happen that are completely outside of your control, and a ‘positive birth’ doesn’t mean a birth without intervention, pain or complications.

I always hoped for a natural, unmedicated birth, so I feel incredibly grateful that I was able to have mostly that experience even though there were still things that happened that I hadn’t planned for.

And then, of course, birth doesn’t really end when your baby arrives. You enter the fourth trimester and your body is recovering while you’re learning how to care for this tiny human. There’s bleeding, swelling, soreness, exhaustion and days where I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus 😂 But then there are countless tiny, precious moments that make everything else disappear.

These stories don’t have to be labelled positive or negative. There is space for all of it, the wild, the intense, the beautiful, the unexpected, the empowering, and everything in between.Because sometimes you can hold all of those feelings at once, and still come away completely in awe of what your body and your baby have just done. 🤍

Welcome to the world, Kayra Mila Castaldo 🩵

Our baby girl travelled earth side on Friday at 8:07pm, weighing a wee 2.7kg ✨

Birth is wild. Beautiful, transcendent, otherworldly. The most primal, powerful and humbling experience, when you finally meet the person you’ve been waiting your whole life to know.

Kayra (pronounced kyrah) comes from a creation deity in ancient Turkic mythology, as well as meaning grace and divine blessing. It felt like the perfect name for our tiny little warrior and how we feel about her, our greatest gift!🩵

We are so completely in love and utterly obsessed. 🥹🥰 Gianluigi Castaldo

A little glimpse of the most beautiful day celebrating our little one, but also celebrating this incredible journey of pregnancy that is so nearly coming to an end! 37 weeks pregnant ahhh!! 🫣

I honestly can’t quite put into words how bittersweet it feels. I’m so ready to meet our baby girl and begin this next chapter, but at the same time, I know I’m going to really miss being pregnant. The feeling of carrying this little person with me everywhere, feeling every kick and movement, and having this tiny world that has been just ours for the last nine months. 💜

Feeling so incredibly grateful to have been surrounded by so much love, laughter, beautiful food and our favourite people as we celebrated both the baby and this chapter of our lives.

The end of one beautiful journey, and the beginning of another!! 👼🏽

End of Summer comfort cooking at its finest 🌞 Creamy leek, mushroom & pesto bean pie.

This is comforting and satisfying, but fresh enough for warm weather eating thanks to plenty of basil pesto, lemon, spinach and thyme. The filling comes together in one pan, then it’s just a matter of layering up some filo and letting the oven do the work. Serve with a big lemony green salad 🤌🏼

Recipe just dropped to my Substack for all my paid subscribers. Link in bio to access all my recipes or comment PIE and I’ll send it straight to your inbox 💌
