I don't like to get on my soapbox but please if you're out having a lovely meal or drink with friends and you want to leave a tip for the friendly bar/waiting staff, that have helped enhance your experience. Please either give them a cash tip, add a drink to your bill or don't leave one at all. Ask the waiter if they have to use an app called TIPSJAR, it's the way most large companies are now operating their tipping system, all tips are pooled and a third party then distributes them after tax is taken. Gone are the day's when those tips given by generous customers as a little token of appreciation for good service, actually go to the person intended. I have had to lie to customer's and say that we get our tips and they aren't taxed, not to get the tip but to save face for the company I worked for. I have even told a customer to please buy my staff a drink for the end of their shift as at least I knew they would get their tip. Rather than him adding gratuity which at the time was being kept by the company. You are not cheap or tight for not giving a tip, remember tips are for good service not part of the bill or staff salary!
