A claim is spreading that Spanish actor Javier Bardem has called for a boycott of Ed Sheeran after Macklemore was removed from the remaining dates of Sheeran’s tour. Bardem has repeatedly and publicly supported Palestinian rights, but no verified statement from the actor or credible news report currently confirms that he personally launched this boycott. What has been confirmed is that Macklemore was dropped after saying “Free Palestine,” condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza and performing “Hind’s Hall” during Sheeran’s MetLife Stadium concerts. The tour promoter said several venues threatened not to host shows featuring Macklemore, potentially putting the rest of the tour at risk. That context matters: this was not simply one artist privately dismissing another. It was a decision shaped by venue pressure, commercial interests and the consequences imposed on an artist for political speech. Bardem may be a vocal advocate for Palestine, but until he makes a direct statement, attributing this boycott call to him risks turning a legitimate controversy into misinformation. Support Macklemore if you agree with him, but share the facts accurately.
