Dainton Park welcomed Woodbury Park for Match 5 and the half way point of the Dartmoor League season. Conditions were far from straightforward as players had to contend with scorching temperatures and a stiff breeze that made club selection a constant challenge throughout the afternoon.
The opening match saw Matt Taylor & Connor Bagnall battle hard in a closely fought contest. Despite plenty of good golf, Woodbury Park edged the crucial moments to take the match 3&2, giving the visitors an early point.
The second pairing of Rob Bishop & James Sanders produced one of the tightest matches of the day. Locked together for much of the front nine, the Dainton duo stayed patient before producing a superb finish on the back nine, pulling 1 clear heading up to 18 and closing the match out.
Momentum was firmly with the home side after that, and the third and fourth pairings made sure of it in emphatic fashion. Calum Cadman & Phil Taylor flew out of the blocks, never allowing their opponents back into the match as they wrapped up a commanding 6&5 win. Alongside them, Dan Taylor & Mark Proctor were equally impressive, matching that dominant performance with another convincing 6&5 victory after controlling their match from start to finish.
The final match on the course featured Glenn Holmes & Tom Buckler, who were involved in another closely contested battle. Although it remained tight throughout, they were never behind at any stage and kept applying pressure before sealing a deserved 2&1 win on the 17th hole.
