Come along tonight to celebrate and cheer on our favourite holiday-destination foot-kicking types as they take on our Argentine neighbours by that little set of islands we own.

They need beating. Sadly, not by us… for the second time.

We shall remain open, with our frankly obscene amount of screen real estate, until the champions have been crowned.

In the interests of not subjecting you all to yet another masterpiece of questionable artistic merit, we’ve elected simply to edit the poster from last time.

Tonight it’s England 🇬🇧 v Argentina 🇦🇷.

We managed it back in the days of Thatcher… let’s hope the footballing types can do it again.

In other entirely sensible news, we’ve added another two televisions since the last match. We are now reaching the stage where finding somewhere to put the next one may require planning permission.

Huzzah! The footballing types have gone and done it again.

Another cracking turnout, plenty of beer disappeared, and England stubbornly insist on giving us all another excuse to gather.

In preparation, we’ve somehow managed to add another two televisions… and we’ve now reached the point where I’m genuinely struggling to find anywhere sensible to put the next one.

Good Lord… you lucky people of Barcombe, it is, once again, Quiz Night at your Royal Oak.

We are looking reassuringly busy, although a handful of tables remain for the organised, the optimistic, and those who have only just remembered because this post appeared.

To accompany this important announcement, please enjoy a photograph of a tiny handwritten sign nestling in one of our rather magnificent hanging baskets. It has absolutely nothing to do with the quiz itself, but it does look awfully nice.

Because it was so delicious it’s all gone.
Kind of a let’s have a look what you would have won.

Pasta alla Norma also called pasta con le melanzane It is typical of Sicilian cuisine, from Catania in particular pasta topped with tomato sauce, covered with slices of fried eggplant and served with grated ricotta salata cheese and often basil.

It was named in honor of a native of Catania, Vincenzo Bellini, the composer of the opera Norma.

No one complained. No one even suggested it.

We looked at the pub, looked at the number of televisions… and concluded it simply wasn’t excessive enough.

We’ve therefore installed yet another screen, this time facing the garden through the window, because missing football while outside is clearly an unacceptable hardship.

At this rate, if England keep winning, the next television will have to go in the toilets.

We apologise for our continuing inability to recognise the concept of “enough screens”. ⚽🍺
