End of an era for iconic 64-year-old cereal brand in South Africa………

For those who haven’t heard, ProNutro has officially been DISCONTINUED in South Africa after 64 years. 🇿🇦😭

From what we understand, the original ProNutro relied on ageing, specialised machinery and a particular manufacturing process that helped give it the taste and texture everyone knew.

The machinery became obsolete and increasingly difficult and expensive to maintain, so production was moved to a newer process and “New Generation” ProNutro arrived.

Unfortunately, the taste and texture weren’t the same, complaints poured in and production was paused while they tried to fix.

🫣Sadly, they couldn’t recreate the original ProNutro using the new manufacturing process, and going back to the old equipment was no longer considered viable.

So instead of finding another way to save a South African breakfast institution (that’s been around since 1962!) the decision has been made to pull the plug completely. 👎

In their announcement today, PepsiCo said:

“We listened and explored options to bring back the original product experience, but we were unable to recreate the taste and texture consumers associated with the original ProNutro. After a long and careful review, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue ProNutro in South Africa.”

We hear you, PepsiCo PR team… but we’re struggling to buy it. 🤨
