Sorry it’s rant time.

How are Uber able to think they can charge £60 for a 2.5 mile journey. £45 for a 2 mile journey , and the latest, last Friday morning at 10am. £11 for a 1 mile journey (that took under 3 minutes). The first two were after England World Cup matches, but that doesn’t excuse the absolute rip off. Apparently it’s not the drivers, they don’t get the extra cash, it’s uber that set the highway robbery amounts (literally).

I have installed the cannon car app and the speedy car app, and will be deleting the uber app. Please do the same. Cannon cars and speedy cars enable prior booking, and instant booking without the Highway Robbery.

Due to Quiz night tonight, it's Buy on get one free Burger night between 6 and 8 as well as the usual Thursday night.

We have our usual range of Aberdeen Angus, Chicken Breast, Cajan Chicken Breast, Vegan, Halloumi, Crispy Katsu Chicken burger and our new Smash burger, priced at just £12 (so tonight get two smash burgers for £12).

Just a reminder, this months Queens Head Quiz is on this Wednesday, starting at 8pm (ish), following the end of food service (this week we will have 2 - 4 - 1 Burgers between 6 and 8pm on Wednesday), so forget the BBQ and let us do the cooking.

Two great games. This time with great results for England. Well done France for doing there part in making it a great game, not cynical, just great end to end football. Argentina in the Rugby, well let’s just say they are Argentina. Only a small crowd to watch it, but great atmosphere never the less.

Many thanks to all who visited us for the England World Cup matches. You created a great atmosphere for all the games and generated over £300 in donations for Downe Village Meet and Mingle. Tonight’s game and the final tomorrow will be shown in full in the Darwin Bar, probably not met with the same passion as the previous games. Also, still taking voluntary £2 donations for last Wednesday game for those that forgot due the disappointment of the result (understandable).

A whole day of sports in the Darwin Bar, culminating with Round 2 of Argentina V England at 8pm, this time in the Rugby Nations Championship, should be a rowdy match following last Wednesdays encounter. This will be followed by the 3rd / 4th place World Cup final play off with France facing England from 10pm (game will be shown in full).

All plans going a bit Pete so far today. We will have no food after 3pm today, until half time food for the football. Menu attached. Pre order your food at the bar anytime before the first half hydration break and it will be ready for half time. We only have a few seats left inside (about 4 I think) and two tables left outside. We will be open in the garden and the Darwin Bar for this Saturdays quarter final. After a full pub for Monday mornings game against Mexico. You are advised to pre book a seat (£2 per person, all proceeds going to Downe Meet & Greet). Half time food will be available, fun, singing and football anthems before and after the game.

Due to the much hotter weather, we are stopping food and our Pie night on a Wednesday (last food orders 3pm) until Pie weather returns (probably August). Downe duck race day, my favourite day of the year to catch some of those yellow plastic pesky ducks. Been practising this morning with a tiny pink squeaky one, it’s very tiring getting them to squeak Though.
