September Buttercream Flower Bouquet Drop 🌸🍂

Two dates. Six bouquets available on each.

My signature buttercream flower bouquets are getting an autumn update for September — rich berry, burnt orange, soft ivory and muted green, all individually hand-piped and arranged as an edible bouquet.

Each bouquet will follow the seasonal design shown, with natural variations in the individual flowers as everything is piped by hand.

Summer, apparently, involved ~ 75kg of buttercream. Mostly turned into flowers.

There were wedding cakes, milestone birthdays, buttercream flower bouquets, tiny details made leaf by leaf…

It has been a wonderfully busy season, but I’m possibly even more excited about what is coming next.

September already has some beautiful floral designs booked that I genuinely cannot wait to make, and I’m also setting aside some studio time to develop new flavours — particularly combinations where really good chocolate and seasonal fruit get to be the stars, rather than just another ingredient.

More beautiful flowers. More interesting flavours. More cakes made specifically for the people they’re celebrating.

I think autumn at Le Cake Shop is going to be rather good.

Presence.

Before a cake exists, it is already present in someone’s mind.

A birthday being planned.
A person being thought about.
A table imagined, candles lit, people gathered together.

Then it becomes present in mine.

While I mix colours, pipe each petal and decide where every flower should sit, there is very little room for anything else. It is one of the things I love most about making cakes — the rare necessity of being completely present in what is directly in front of me.

And eventually, it leaves my hands and becomes part of somebody else’s moment.

Sitting on the table.
Being carried into the room.
Candles, photographs, conversations, people stopping to look a little closer.

A sunflower like this doesn’t start as a whole flower.

It starts as individual buttercream petals, piped one by one, then layered and assembled until the whole thing begins to take shape.

I love that contrast — something so bold and full of presence, built entirely from small, careful pieces.

Then it becomes part of the cake, alongside the softer ivory flowers and foliage, and suddenly the whole composition starts to make sense.

Every flower is edible. Every petal is made by hand. And none of them are ever quite identical.

That is exactly how I like them.

It feels far too hot today to think about much beyond finding some shade… so a little fishing seems quite appealing. 🎣

This one had one very specific brief at its heart: fishing.

Rather than simply adding a rod and a fish, I wanted to turn the whole cake into a little scene — father and son at the water’s edge, the line disappearing down towards the fish, grasses growing around the bank and plenty of texture to make it feel almost like a tiny landscape.

It was created for Adam’s 40th celebrations at Super Brothers Arms Cocktail, Wine Tapas Bar — always lovely when one of my cakes gets to be part of a celebration somewhere local.

Happy 40th, Adam. I hope there was plenty of cake, good company and perhaps slightly cooler conditions than we have today. 😆

This one was all about keeping things classic: soft ivory buttercream, vintage-style piping, fresh raspberries and a little gold to mark the occasion.

Kindness

What I remember most about Cheryl and Richard’s wedding is not the cake.

It is the warmth that radiated from them from the first time we met. The kindness in the way they spoke, the ease between them, and the feeling that their celebration was never about putting on a performance. It was about being with the people who mattered most.

Nobody disappears into the crowd. Every face matters. Every conversation has space. Every detail is close enough to be noticed.

Their cake was created to belong quietly within that day. Soft buttercream flowers, piped individually by hand, reflected the colours and gentle movement of Cheryl’s bouquet without competing for attention.

Afterwards, Cheryl and Richard sent the most generous review. Of course, hearing that they loved the cake meant a great deal. But what stayed with me most was knowing they had felt listened to and looked after throughout the process.

Perhaps that is what luxury really is.

Not simply having more, but having the time, care and attention to make something feel entirely your own.

A first birthday deserves its own little piece of magic.

Created for Isla’s first birthday: a soft ivory buttercream cake with delicate flowers, a handmade bunny, personalised details and matching building blocks.

Alongside the main celebration cake, I created a smaller coordinating smash cake especially for Isla—giving her something of her own to explore while the larger cake could be shared with family and friends.

Every first-birthday design is created individually, with the colours, theme and personal details tailored to the child and celebration.
