It never ceases to amaze me how some people will happily spend £500 on designer jackets, trainers, and accessories without a second thought, yet question the value of a handmade product that costs just a few pounds.

What many people don’t see is the amount of work, preparation, and expense that goes on behind the scenes of a small business. Every product represents hours of planning, sourcing quality ingredients, creating, packaging, and ensuring everything meets the standards I set for my customers. There are also business costs that most people never consider, including supplies, equipment, travel, insurance, and countless other expenses required just to keep a small business running.

When you purchase from a small business, you are not simply paying for the final product. You are supporting the time, effort, dedication, and personal investment that has gone into creating it. Unlike large corporations, small business owners often do everything themselves, from production and customer service to marketing and administration.

It can be incredibly disheartening when people undervalue handmade products while willingly paying premium prices for mass-produced items. Small businesses work tirelessly to provide quality products and services, often sacrificing personal time and working long hours to make it happen.

Before questioning the price of a handmade item, take a moment to consider the person behind it, the effort involved, and the reality that passion alone does not pay business expenses. Respect the work, respect the craft, and respect the people who dedicate themselves to building something from the ground up.
