Morden Hall Park NT

Morden Hall Park NT FREE entry. Childhoods begin paddling and splashing, climbing in trees and playing through meadows. A place to meet, to fall in love, to form memories.

An ancient, Arcadian country estate of fine trees and open skies, enveloped by London and saved by a far-sighted philanthropic. ‘Our park’, a place owned and loved by those who use it every day. Water is everywhere, the harnessed power of the river Wandle which drove local industry and milled snuff: surging in places and tamed in others. There are no barriers at Morden Hall Park: either real or imagined. This is the National Trust for ever, for everyone. Commuters walk to work, teenagers ride their bikes, mums relax in the rose garden and locals meet in the café. Wildlife is abundant: kingfishers, herons, dragonflies. London is ever present: the regular rattle of the tram, birdsong mixing with sirens but escape and tranquillity is never far away.”

Over the past week, the Ranger team, alongside an army of ranger and corporate volunteers, has been carrying out its annual wetland management work to help boost biodiversity and improve climate resilience.

Each year, a section of the wetland is drained to allow access for cutting back reeds and removing invasive species. This careful management helps create a diverse wetland landscape that supports native wildlife. The area will soon be refilled, restoring the wetland conditions that allow nature to thrive.

A big thank you to all the volunteers who gave their time to support this important work including HSBC, EY and Trinity Bridge.

October is Black History Month. At Morden Hall Park, we're hosting events for the community to come together and celebrate their heritage and culture.

Explore African spirituality and ancestry through a thought-provoking talk with Dr Michelle Asantewa, introduce little ones to the rhythms of African djembe drumming, and enjoy storytelling and crafts inspired by Mami Wata, the African goddess of water. There's something for adults, families and young children alike.

It's our Harvest Festival this Saturday (3 October) and the day is full to the brim with events and activities for everyone to explore.

Head on over to the stableyard for live performances and community displays, themed crafts and apple pressing. There's even a Punch and Judy show and market stalls from local traders.

This is a completely free event, but you are invited to bring food donations* in support of Merton's Community Fridge, a local initiative run by Sustainable Merton that helps tackle food poverty and reduce food waste across the borough.

*non-perishable food items only, please.

During our busy periods, Morden Hall Parks works with Unique Talent, a local charity helping young people escape violence, crime, and negative cycles through mentorship, education, and opportunity.

Part of their work involves providing their service users with employment opportunities such as car park attendants in our car park.

At weekends and summer holidays, a team of Unique Talents mentors also patrols the park, engaging with young people who visit. They're specially trained in conflict resolution and generally help keep the park a great place for everyone who visits.

A BIG thank you to Unique Talent CIC for all your help this summer.

Today is the autumn equinox, the point in the year when day and night are almost perfectly balanced. From here on, the days become shorter, the air cooler, and the leaves begin their gradual transformation before falling from the trees.

Autumn has long been celebrated around the world, inspiring festivals, customs, and folklore that reflect the harvest season and the gradual shift towards winter.

At Morden Hall Park, we're embracing the season with a mix of nature, folklore and family activities, from our Harvest Festival and Stranger Folk digital adventure to pumpkin carving later in the autumn. 🍂
