Mrs P's Cake Shed is now closed π¦
Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by π€
I received this comment today on a post I shared on a public group. Every now and then someone will comment their opinion and I usually ignore it. However, I wanted to discuss this as I don't think they have any idea how much cost and effort goes into running my little bakery business and comments like this can be extremely disheartening π
Every time I open Mrs P's Cake Shed I can spend up to 15 hours baking. This doesn't include the hours I spend writing a menu, shopping for ingredients, ordering packaging and supplies, writing ingredients labels, admin, cutting and packing, the endless washing up, designing, advertising, social media and much more.
I always use quality ingredients which aren't cheap. If it says a bake has a specific chocolate bar, I am using the genuine brand. Sometimes it can cost me between Β£5 and Β£10 just in chocolate bars for a specific bake. I buy free range eggs and I use real butter in my brownies, blondies and other items. You also have to factor in the cost of my electric, equipment and business insurance.
For those of you that follow socials you may have heard of a particular baker who was selling simple bakes (like school cake made with cheap ingredients) for Β£5 a slice and had a 6 month wait!! My bakes are cheaper, much more indulgent, are big enough to share and can be collected the same day π€
If you want cheaper, more basic bakes there are plenty of options available, like Tesco. I believe in my bakes and I appreciate they aren't cheap but you don't have to buy them π
At the end of the day I am just trying to support my family one bake at a time and I charge what I believe my bakes are worth.
I am beyond grateful to everyone who chooses to support my little business π₯°
