Black buttercream roses seemed like a good idea… 🖤🌹

And to be fair, I think they look pretty fabulous.

What I temporarily forgot was just how much MESS you can make working with black buttercream. 😂

Hands, piping bags, worktops… and of course I had a class to teach afterwards!

These were a special request and formed part of a much larger black, ivory and red 30-cupcake bouquet, so the dramatic black roses were absolutely worth it in the end.

Although I’m not sure my hands agreed. 😂

Would you put black buttercream flowers in a bouquet — or are they a step too far for you? 🖤👇

This one was made for a very special 80th birthday. 🌸

The request was a little different from my usual wrapping too — soft dusky pinks, peach, cream and white, but finished in brown paper with a hessian bow for a more natural, rustic look.

I absolutely loved how it turned out.

And then I received this message afterwards:

“I can’t thank you enough for the utterly incredible cake you created for us to celebrate my aunt’s 80th birthday. Everyone was completely blown away. The hotel chefs and staff all said it was the most impressive cake they’d ever seen.”

Messages like that genuinely mean so much. 💕

There’s a lot of work hidden inside one of these larger bouquets, so knowing it became part of such a special celebration makes every bit of piping worthwhile.

And I have to say, I think the brown paper was a brilliant choice — it gave the whole bouquet a completely different feel.

Would you choose the traditional pink wrapping, or the brown-paper look? 👇

“Which one did you enjoy piping the most?”

“All of them.” 😂🌸

I think that’s a pretty good review of a private lesson!

I taught Ingrid earlier this year and loved this little moment at the end of our session. She’d created a beautiful box of six spring floral cupcakes and, when I asked whether she felt she’d learnt a lot, her answer was a very definite “Yeah, I’ve learnt so much.”

She messaged me afterwards to say she’d really enjoyed the session, learnt loads and couldn’t wait to get practising again — which is exactly what I want someone to feel when they leave. 💕

Private tuition gives us the time to work at your pace, repeat techniques where needed and concentrate on the little details that help everything start to click.

And you get to leave with something rather lovely too. 🌸

If you’d like to find out about private tuition with me in Kent, message me LEARN and I’ll send you the details.

She came all the way from Belgium to learn with me… 🌸🇧🇪

Back in March, I had the pleasure of welcoming Veerle for a private lesson.

There’s something particularly lovely about private tuition because the whole session can be shaped around you — the flowers you want to master, the techniques you need help with and the areas where you’d like a little more confidence.

And as you can see, Veerle certainly kept me busy! 😂🌸

We worked through a beautiful selection of floral designs, from delicate little filler flowers and hydrangeas to dahlias, roses and those gorgeous mini floral gardens.

By the end of our time together, just look at everything she’d created. 🥰

I’ve had students travel to me from all over the UK — and increasingly from rather further afield too — and it still feels incredibly special that someone would travel all that way to learn with me.

Would you love to learn how to create buttercream flowers like these? 🌸

Message me LEARN and I’ll send you the details about my private tuition in Kent.

“Oh wow… that’s cool, innit?” 😂🌸

I think that might be my favourite reaction to finishing a cupcake bouquet!

When Wenda travelled from the Valleys in Wales for her private lesson with me, she had never piped buttercream flowers before.

Those roses at the beginning of this video? They were the first buttercream roses she’d ever piped. 🌹

Over the course of our lesson we worked through different flowers and techniques before bringing everything together into her own 7-cupcake bouquet.

Then came the final sunflower… 🌻

She eased it into place, stood back to look at what she’d created and out came that completely spontaneous reaction.

And actually, Wenda — it WAS pretty cool. 🥰

That’s one of my favourite things about teaching: seeing that moment when someone realises, “I actually made this.”

From her very first buttercream rose to that finished bouquet in just one lesson. 💕

If you’ve always wanted to learn how to pipe buttercream flowers but don’t know where to start, my private lessons are designed to meet you at your level — even if you’ve never picked up a piping bag before. 🌸

Message me LEARN and I’ll send you the details.

Sometimes you just need to see the scale of these bouquets! 🌸💐

This one was made from 19 individually hand-piped floral cupcakes — and I thought I’d give you a proper look at it before it headed out of the door.

I love the smaller bouquets, but there’s something particularly satisfying about putting one of these big ones together and watching all those individual cupcakes suddenly become one huge floral arrangement. 🥰

And yes… every single flower you can see is buttercream!

Be honest — would you rather someone turned up with a bunch of flowers or 19 floral cupcakes? 😂👇

Sometimes the skills are still there — you just need a little confidence to find them again. 🌸

Victoria travelled down from Birmingham for some private tuition with me.

She wasn’t completely new to cake decorating — she’d previously made wedding cakes — but buttercream flowers were something different, and it had been a while since she’d been decorating.

And she was SO good. 🥰

We worked through different floral techniques, created the prettiest little mini cupcake gardens and then brought everything together in a 7-cupcake luxury bouquet.

Watching her confidence grow as we worked was probably my favourite part.

Sometimes a lesson isn’t about starting from scratch. It’s about having someone beside you to help you learn something new, brush up on old skills and remind you what you’re capable of creating. 💕

And I think that finished bouquet speaks for itself. 🌸

Have you ever taken a break from cake decorating and wondered whether you could get back into it? I’d love to know. 👇

Remember Sunday’s VERY pink wedding bouquet? 💕

Well, these were the mini cupcakes that went alongside it — and as you can see, we didn’t try to match them at all!

Instead, the couple chose a gorgeous mix of bright, summery flowers with sunflowers, daisies, primroses and lots of cheerful colour. 🌻🌼🌸

And I actually love that.

Wedding cakes and cupcakes don’t always have to be perfectly matched. Sometimes having different elements that complement the overall celebration can make the whole display much more interesting.

Plus, there’s something ridiculously cute about seeing all those floral designs in miniature. 🥰

What would you choose for your wedding — everything perfectly coordinated, or a mixture like this? 👇

A 21st birthday celebration with a difference… 🌸🥂

This lovely private session was booked by a mum as part of her daughter’s 21st birthday celebrations — and she brought along a brilliant little group of friends to enjoy it with her.

There was plenty of piping, plenty of laughter and, by the end, everyone had created their own box of four beautiful floral cupcakes to take home. 🧁🌸

I really love teaching private groups like this because they’re as much about the experience together as they are about learning to pipe. You don’t have to arrive knowing what you’re doing — that’s my job! 😂

And judging by those smiles at the end, I think they did rather well. 💕
