Does your organisation understand the difference between cultural competency and cultural humility? 🤔

We don’t just deliver health data, we bridge gaps. Food for Purpose hosts expert-led Cultural Awareness sessions specifically designed to deepen the understanding of diversity when working alongside Black African and Black Caribbean communities.

We break down the unique health behaviours, heritage diets, and cultural nuances within the diaspora. Our goal? To equip healthcare professionals and community workers with the real-world insights they need to ensure every patient and service user gets the tailored care they deserve to live healthier lives.

At Food for Purpose, our sessions are built on four simple, transformative principles:

💚 Reducing salt
💚 Reducing fat
💚 Increasing fibre
💚 Managing carbohydrate portions

We aren’t here to teach you how to cook; we know you’ve got that covered! We’re here to show you how these principles can elevate your traditional meals to help manage blood glucose, lower blood pressure, and maintain a healthy weight.

Let’s honour our heritage and our health at the same time.

At Food for Purpose, we are here to eat, live, and serve purposefully! 🍲

A massive thank you to for organising the “Advancing Equity in Diabetes and Pregnancy for Black Women” conference. It was an honour to be part of such a vital mission to improve health outcomes for our community.

Dr Shola, and the wonderful turned the room into a space of discovery, exploring how traditional dishes like fish tea and goat pilau play a massive role in healthy pregnancies. It wasn’t just about “dieting”, it was about celebrating the foods our communities trust while managing diabetes with confidence.

Dr Shola also joined Dr Manju Chandiramani for an eye-opening chat on how family traditions and clinical advice can work together instead of clashing. The room was full of energy. Participants were engaged, informed, and curious, asking questions, listening with a new perspective, and showing a deep commitment to the cause.

Our gratitude to 🫶🏾 Your amazing culinary skills were the heart of this session. Thank you for showing us the beauty of our food!

When we respect the context of a woman’s life, we improve the quality of her care 🖤

Happy National Walking Month! 🚶🏾‍♀️✨

This year, Living Streets is highlighting the incredible benefits of walking for women. It’s a call to action for all women to prioritise themselves and head outside for their health, wellbeing, and simple enjoyment.

We’re lacing up our trainers and getting involved too! Watch this space to see how we’ll be hitting the pavement this month.

For now…a little recap from last year’s NWM!

Fresh or frozen? We say both!

Whether it’s straight from the vine or the freezer aisle, both count toward your 5-a-day. Frozen fruit and veg are flash-frozen at peak ripeness, so they’re still packed with the vitamins and minerals you need to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Plus, going frozen is often better for your pocket! It lasts longer and removes the worry of food going mouldy before you can use it. Whichever way you shop, just remember to get those greens in.

We had a great time at the Black Health Inequalities Summit 2026! ⚡️

What a powerful, action-provoking day. From the talks to the workshops, every moment was a reminder that “business as usual” isn’t enough. We are here to dismantle systemic barriers and centre health equity in everything we do.

At Food for Purpose, this event has added even more fuel to our fire. We remain committed to:

🖤 Bridging the ‘trust gap’ between healthcare services and our community
🖤 Changing the narrative around Black health
🖤 Driving meaningful progress for our Black African and Caribbean communities

A huge thank you to and for hosting such a vital and inspiring event. Let’s keep this momentum going!

When stress hits, cortisol usually sends us straight for the sugar and fried treats. We’ve all been there! While a treat is totally fine, your body needs real, nutrient-dense fuel to actually survive the pressure. Think of vibrant fruit, veg, and balanced meals as your “stress-armour.” They provide the vitamins and minerals your nervous system needs to stay resilient when things get hectic.

Feeding your body well is a must-do, and we’ve made it easy for you. Head to the link in our bio for balanced, nutrient-rich recipes designed to keep you fueled and focused! 🔗

Remember, high-quality fuel helps you manage the day, but it won’t solve chronic stress alone. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, please reach out to a professional. True stewardship means looking after your plate and your peace.

“Honour God with your bodies.” ✨

Physical activity isn’t just about the gym, it’s about stewardship, community, and showing up for ourselves so we can show up for others.

Amazing energy at King’s Chapel for our HCI session last week! We talked about the ‘why’ of movement, and then we felt it with a group squat hold to finish. The burn is real, but the community spirit is stronger. 💪🏾

Drop a ‘🙌🏾’ if you’re moving your body today!

Black-led churches across southeast London are being equipped with a new, faith-rooted health resource following the launch of a Bible-based immunity and family health video, developed through deep community engagement and expert clinical input.

The resource was unveiled Saturday 13th December 2025 at the Faith, Family & Health – Immunity and Family Health event, hosted by Food for Purpose (FFP) in partnership with Black church leaders, NHS community teams, and public health professionals.

It has been shaped by extensive consultation, including discussion groups, workshops, and conversations with church leaders, Black parents, and young people, as well as direct responses to longstanding questions and concerns about vaccination, immunity, and family wellbeing.
