This is “biang” 𰻝— one of the most complex Chinese characters ever invented, with up to 58 strokes. It’s not even found in standard dictionaries.
Made up purely to describe a noodle, it captures the playful and folkloric spirit of a dish that’s been loved for generations: Biang Biang noodles.
Originating in Shaanxi province in northwest China, these noodles have a long history — some local legends trace them back to the Qin or Han dynasty. The name biang is onomatopoeic — it mimics the sound of dough slapping against the counter during hand-pulling: BIANG!
Biang Biang noodles 𰻞𰻞面are known for being thick, wide, chewy, and deeply satisfying. But what truly sets them apart is the 🔥油泼 (yóu pō) — hot oil poured over raw garlic, chili flakes, and spices, creating an aromatic sizzle that brings the whole bowl to life😋.
