A rather special Afternoon Tea at Café Petiole | A (mostly) vegan café | At Somerset House, celebrating Fleurs de Villes DIANA at Somerset House

With its high ceilings, large windows and views across the fountains, Café Petiole has the timeless elegance of a Georgian tea room. The perfect backdrop for an Afternoon Tea inspired by this extraordinary floral celebration of the People’s Princess.

Created by chef Rishim Sachdeva, whose acclaimed Mayfair restaurant Tendril champions a plant first approach, Café Petiole offers an expansive vegan menu that makes vegetables and seasonal produce the star of the table.

For this visit, I enjoyed the vegan, plant based Fleurs de Villes DIANA Afternoon Tea.

Smashed cucumber and chilli tahini sandwiches, courgette and leek quiche, wonderful homemade raisin scones with the best vegan clotted cream I’ve tasted and fabulous raspberry jam, followed by a good selection of sweets.

My highlights were the Almond Morello cherry and Chocolate honey bun slice.

You can make a full day of the experience by combining the Afternoon Tea with a visit to the Fleurs de Villes DIANA exhibition and one of the floral workshops.

With the 30th anniversary of Diana’s passing approaching in 2027, it’s a particularly thoughtful way to remember her enduring legacy and celebrate her life.

Afternoon Tea x Fleurs de Villes Diana

While the exibition blooms through Somerset House, we are pouring tea in our buttery yellow room, and the menu is in full bloom, too.

Scones warm from the oven, coronation-spiced celeriac with marigold petals, “forget me not” jammy lamingtons, lemon poppy seed muffins with preserved lavender and a jasmine and matcha tart, each with its perfectly paired tea.

Afternoon Tea x Fleurs de Villes DIANA

This season, Café Petiole blooms alongside the world premiere of Fleurs de Villes DIANA at Somerset House 🌸 Fifteen fresh floral mannequins by London’s leading floral designers, celebrating the enduring legacy of Diana, Princess of Wales.

We begin with the season’s savouries, folloed by homemade raisin scones with clotted cream, coronation-spiced celeriac scattered with marigold, “forget me not” jammy lamingtons and a jasmine and matcha tart, each course paired with a tea from our selection by Teadrop UK.

A portion of proceeds supports The Diana Award, empowering young people to change the world.

Served Thursday to Saturday at 3pm throughout the exhibition. Booking required.

Café Petiole is available for private hire. Butter-yellow walls that hold the light on a grey London day, restored 1930s rose-pink bentwood chairs, hand-painted alabaster and paper peonies overhead. Up to 26 seated or 40 standing.

Take the room and bring your own vision. Take the full experience and build a menu with Rishim and the kitchen, bold, seasonal and mostly vegan, shaped around the evening you have in mind. Or take the space and bring your own caterer, if you already know exactly what you want on the table.
