‘Poet of the People’, Benjamin Zephaniah (1958-2023) by George Triggs
Four-times life size, this portrait bust of poet, writer, activist and Peaky Blinders star, Benjamin Zephaniah stands proudly just above eye-level. His words of poetry have been generously woven into the structural fabric, revealing one of the poet’s central messages, ‘people need people’.
Being a creatively complex piece gave our team the chance to pull out all the stops and bring our specialist casting expertise into play. From meticulous attention to the casting of the wording to Benjamin Zephaniah’s dreadlocks, which were integral to the central structure - our team worked alongside George ensuring the unique casting requirements of each section, seamlessly working it all back together before patinating the finished bronze.
Seeing this powerful piece brought to life was a huge honour and we are grateful to George for the opportunity to collaborate on such an impressive and heartfelt tribute to one of our greatest poets.
