A rare autolithograph by Anthony Waterer entitled ‘The Cow with the Crumpled Horn’, signed and dated 1938. This printwork rarely comes on the market, and is usually only seen in public gallery collections. An example was purchased in 1939 by the Contemporary Art Society, and then subsequently presented to the Prints and Drawings Department of the British Museum just after the war in 1945. There is also an example in the Auckland Art Gallery, New Zealand. This particular example was within the private collection of prints, all by leading British Artists, of New Zealand-born Rex Nan-Kivell, who gifted them to the gallery in 1953. Other than this lithograph by Anthony Waterer, we’re works by Cyril Power, Sybil Andrews, Eric Ravilious, Eileen Mayo, Eduardo Paolozzi, William Scott, Eric Gill, Duncan Grant, and Robert Colquhoun, to name but a few!! Nan-Kivell served as the managing director of London’s Redfern Gallery from 1931 until his death in 1977, having originally joined the gallery in 1925. Full details of this special piece can be found on our website.

A rare opportunity to acquire an original Laurence Scarfe (1914-1993) watercolour painting. It features the grotto in the Boboli Gsrdens, Florence. Signed and dated 1950. This was the year that his travelogue book ‘Rome, Fragments in the Sun’ was published by Hutchinson, which he wrote and illustrated. The following year in 1951 he worked on murals for the Dome of Discovery and the Regatta Restaurant at the Festival of Britain. In 1958 he was invited as guest artist to exhibit in the Great Bardfield Artists Association show, where his work was hanging alongside Edward Bawden. Full details on this artwork can be found on our website.
