Can you help us get Lincoln on the map? 🚴☕
This photo shows last year's Tour of Britain route map. Imagine seeing Lincoln right there as the starting point of the opening stage on Wednesday 2nd September, with the finish line in the historic area of Newport in uphill Lincoln.
For our city, this would be a huge privilege, but there is a chance Lincolnshire County Council could block it despite the event raising £40 million for its venues last year.
This event would bring National TV coverage, professional cyclists, support teams, media crews and visitors from across the UK – and potentially around the world – all descending on Lincoln to see what we have to offer.
For independent businesses like ours, a major event on a midweek day in September could be transformational. Hotels filled, coffee shops buzzing, restaurants thriving and Lincoln showcased across national news channels. Maybe even Peter Levy - Look North would stop by for a coffee!
As a family run coffee shop in a beautiful area with many independent businesses that rely on visitors and tourism, it's difficult for us to understand the argument that an event of this scale wouldn't benefit the city. We see every day how important visitors are to local businesses, and opportunities to showcase Lincoln don't come around often.
We're not interested in political point-scoring. We simply want to see Lincoln given the chance to shine. Whatever your political views, surely we can all agree that bringing positive attention, visitors and investment to our city is a good thing.
If you'd like to see the Tour of Britain come to Lincoln, please make your views known to your local councillors and decision-makers.
Let's get Lincoln on the map. 🚴❤️
