Hello Devonshire dumplings,
I arrived here a little over a year ago, what a whirlwind it's been. Honiton has been incredibly welcoming, and I'm grateful to have met so many friendly, like-minded people along the way.
I’ve taken on a lot with this project, and it’s been a journey full of learning, connection, and challenges. It's with a heavy heart that I have to report that your community games cafe, Quest, is officially on pause.
The reality is that the scale and responsibility of the building work turned out to be far greater than I could reasonably manage alone.
Alongside that, I’ve also been dealing with some fairly heavy medical stuff. I'm starting new treatment, which means I simply don’t have the capacity right now to keep pushing at the pace this place demands.
The long-term stress and health complications have made it clear that the most sensible thing I can do is step back and focus on my wellbeing.
I know this is disappointing, it is for me too. This should have been the exciting stage... building the bar, getting the coffee machine in, filling the space with plants, games and people. Instead it's a necessary pause.
The dream is still alive. I believe deeply in the idea, in the need for spaces where people can gather, play, feel less alone, and where mental health and connection genuinely matter. I just need to come back to it from a steadier place, likely with more partnership, and probably in a different venue that doesn’t require quite so much heavy lifting.
Thank you so much to everyone who’s supported me along the way with encouragement, help, donations, kind words, and belief. It really has meant more than I can say.
So for now, I’m focusing on my health and wellbeing, while holding on to hope that Quest will find its footing again in the near future 🤞
