It was the last Thursday of the month and that can only mean one thing. Tapas trail!
Started at last times New kid on the block Y’s, for peri peri chicken in my case, Mr MCWF had calamari. Then onto this months new kids on the block, Avrios. They already do tapas style food, so it’s not too different. Prawn skewers for me, and goats cheese and pear tart for him. A friend had hummus, she was talking to the owner and the next thing we know we are getting to try anchovy skewers (well I didn’t as there were tomatoes on them) and more goats cheese and pear tarts. Now I’m not a big cheese fan, so it isn’t something I’d order for myself, but wasn’t going to pass on free food, and it was lovely.

Pudding at Hollowgate. Huge amount of chocolate cake, sauce and ice cream for me. Ice cream and biscoff and whatever for him.

I’m beginning to think Sunday is the new Saturday when it comes to eating outside/in my shed. I keep being dragged out on Saturdays by friends (the guilty parties know who I mean 😂).

Anyway, a cheat week. We bought pre marinaded Chinese chicken mini breast fillets. And now we are reminded why we generally buy chicken thighs. They tested fine and the marinade was good, but they just lack a depth of flavour that thighs have.

Served with mixed grains and veggies.

Both cats came looking for me as it was tea time for them and Mr MCWF hadn’t fed them before he came out. They didn’t get any of ours.

Last weekend was the Holmfirth food and drink festival. Lots of stalls selling lots of lovely things. We bought some Malaysian food for lunch (beef rendang and chicken curry) plus some stuffed cookies. Also bought focaccia for lunch the following day.

WARNING! Don’t scroll past the first moth picture if you hate spiders.

Very breezy yesterday during the day, so decided to cook in the shed again. Well that’s what it’s for after all. I prepped the chicken the day before while Mr MCWF prepped that nights tea. Chicken marinaded in a spicy yoghurt mix with all the usual suspects, garlic, ginger, cumin, coriander, cardamom, fenugreek, turmeric and garam Marsala.
Served with the old favourite James May’s coconut red lentil dhal.

I was joined in the shed, not by Daisy or LJ, but by Charlotte the spider (she’s huge), a large yellow underwing moth, a wasp and 2 ladybirds. Moth got dangerously close to Charlotte but managed to evade capture, and I eventually managed to usher her out.

Typically the wind had died down 🙄

A change of pace today. A canal walk from Slaithwaite to Marsden and back. Nice flat walk with a lovely group of people, many that I knew. Lunch and a reasonably well earned pint at Northern Sole. We managed to avoid the rain.

Yes folks, it was the last Thursday of the month so that meant Tapas trail. We started at Poppa Piccolinos this time, and they’ve extended their menu since we first went there on the first ever tapas trail, I don’t know why we haven’t been since. I had the delicious ribs, which I dived into and completely forgot to get a photo of, but theres a photo of other people’s dishes here instead. As the menu says they were indeed very sticky. The owner offered us a shot of limoncello as we left, and Mr MCWF practiced his very limited Indonesian.
Second stop was a newbie to the tapas trail, Y’s Bar and Snap. Never been in here before at all, I had calamari and Mr MCWF had peri peri chicken, big portions and delicious.
We always seem to gravitate to Dixons for ice cream after and last night was no exception. Sadly they didn’t have my favourite Black Forest so had cherry ripple instead.
