Today, The Sugar Loaf feels a little emptier.
We are incredibly sad to hear that our friend and local, Colin βRigitβ Wright, passed away this morning after his battle with cancer.
Anyone who knew Rigit will know just how difficult it is to sum him up in a few words. He was funny, kind, generous with his time and, judging by the stories being shared today, someone who had an extraordinary ability to be there when people needed him. Whether it was a laugh over a pint, some surprisingly good advice on a drunken night, or simply giving someone his time, he clearly meant an awful lot to an awful lot of people.
Over the course of his illness, we have also seen something quite remarkable happen around him. Friends, family and the wider community rallied together not only to support Rigit and his children, but to raise money for the units and people who cared for him throughout his cancer treatment.
There have been skydives, mountain climbs and fundraising challenges, while even some of our youngest locals got involved with bake sales. So many people gave their time, effort and money, and behind it all was one man who had clearly made enough of an impact on people's lives that they wanted to do something in return.
A pub is ultimately made by its people, and Rigit was one of ours. There will be countless stories told about him at The Sugar Loaf for years to come - probably quite a few that aren't suitable for Facebook - and there will always be a place for him in the history of this pub and this community.
Our thoughts and love are with his children, all of Rigit's family, and the incredible group of friends who surrounded him with so much love and support throughout his illness.
Thank you for the laughs, the stories and the memories, Rigit.
From all of us at The Sugar Loaf, you will be very much missed. β€οΈ
