It’s been a busy Monday already. Any Monday which starts with a 45 minute drive to a physio appointment for a child is a busy Monday. This one was to assess his ‘lateral collateral ligament’ damage, for which he is struggling to complete the exercises as he also has both a broken thumb and the collar bone of the opposite arm. Rightly, the lovely physio laughed heartily at him as he walked in. Anywho, here’s another jellycat cake for you all. This one was Biscoff on the inside which we highly approve of.

The big man (who’s also, coincidentally, called Barry) has been in France for the past eight days cycling with his pal, and it sounds like they’ve eaten a lot of cheese. When they order a burger it turns up swimming in a sea of cheese. Think he’ll need a cheese detox when he gets back. Somehow this is the first time I’ve made a wedge of Brie for a cake, turned out ok. Did you know there was an explosion in a cheese factory? All that was left was de-brie…

Finally the troops are starting to head out of the door. One went back to school yesterday, complete with a sling on one arm and a splint on the other. One’s at college today for an orientation session. Another one is also finding her way around her new college. The rest are back on Monday. And still we bake. This one turned out to coordinate perfectly with the birthday girl’s outfit, which was a cracking piece of serendipity.

Time. It’s all relative isn’t it? The last day of the holidays is not showing any signs of letting up, with three boys needing to be in three very different places at exactly the same time, for three very valid reasons - driving lesson from his dads house, rugby trials, having one of his many injuries looked at by a medical professional. Time is not my friend today. But this cake was cool, lemon on the inside, a LOT of gold lustre on the outside (which I decorated myself and my kitchen with).

The summer saga continues. Yesterday at 1pm, with six orders to complete, two by 3pm, I had a call from the bike park to tell me the youngest boy child had come off his bike and was in a bad way. After an initial panic I called his dad who scooped him up to take him to hospital where he had a broken collar bone and sprained hand diagnosed (hopefully it isn’t a snapped ligament hey?). So he’s now walking around with a sling on one arm and a brace on the other, which is helpful. The other son who isn’t at Reading had a ‘gathering’ last night and now there’s a boy asleep in my dog bed. Which is a poor choice of resting place as it’s dirty and covered with dog hair, but they’ve got to learn hey? On the plus side three of the six cakes were completed, and this one was a yummy little number from last week - lemon and raspberry cake filled with lemon curd and lemon and elderflower buttercream and topped with pretty lil roses. It’s nice to have some nice things to punctuate the carnage.

So busy here at the moment. Various injuries (not mine), preparing for college enrolment, getting ready for Reading (involving various ingenious methods of attempting to sneak vodka past security) and an eight day French road trip on a Raleigh Montage from the 1990s (don’t ask). Plus a trip to the Motherland (Tottenham obvs) which takes approximately eleventy billion hours to get to (it was easier when I was an Essex girl, in fact we discussed the viability of purchasing a second home in Romford or Chigwell or maybe even Basildon), leaving me here today contemplating a weeks worth of order on 3 1/2 hours sleep. But a Biscoff cake always makes you feel better, doesn’t it?

This cake is a bit like where’s wally - anyone spotted the three little snails hiding amongst the swirls and roses?
