Anyone else spend half the evening looking forward to finally sitting down?

Rest is floral and aromatic, with a more robust, full-bodied character than you might expect. Linden and chamomile form the base, with lemon balm, orange peel and a touch of lavender.

Made to brew by the pot and drink slowly through the evening.

Four days to go and we’ve reached the “surely that’s the last thing” stage.

The important stuff is ready. Now it’s the postage boxes, labels, final website tweaks and trying to explain what we mean by a modern ritual.

Anyone else suddenly decide they need a tea when they’ve been doing the same thing for too long?

Recharge is our caffeine-free daytime blend. Tart, bright and properly fruity; raspberry, rosehip and sea buckthorn, balanced by raspberry leaf and the rounded sweetness of raisins.

The big light is fine until suddenly it absolutely isn’t.

Lamps on. Candles lit. Same room, completely different situation.

Which isn’t entirely in our heads. How bright or warm a light is and where it comes from can all change how we feel in a space.

The firelight bit is interesting too. Anthropologist Polly Weissner found that, among Ju/‘hoansi communities, conversations around fires after dark were much more@likely to turn to stories and social life than daytime conversations.

So maybe the collective refusal to use the big light after dark has something going for it.

Six plants made the final blend. Each one had to earn its place.

Rise is our caffeine-free morning infusion. It’s fresh and green; closer to green tea than a typical floral herbal tea. With mellow earthiness, quiet warmth and a clean, lightly floral finish.

Not every cup of tea is doing the same job.

The one you make before the day starts isn’t quite the same as the one you make when you want five minutes to yourself, or the one when you’re done for the day.

So we made three very different herbal blends for those moments.

Nothing says September quite like deciding you’re going to become significantly more organised than you were in August.

New notebook. Full diary. Everyone’s suddenly “back to it”.

Turns out there might actually be something behind it. Psychologists call it the fresh start effect. And after years of September meaning a new school year, new timetable and starting again, it all starts to make sense.

Even The Guardian was talking about the “September reset” this week.

Anyway, happy September. Apparently we’re back to it.

We’re nearly ready too. Tonic & Root launches Sunday 27th September.
