In an economy that rewards speed, efficiency and endless growth, it can be easy to forget that many of the things that sustain life operate at a different pace.
Care takes time. Communities take time. Ecological renewal takes time.
Yet care work remains routinely undervalued, environmental limits are frequently overlooked, and inequalities continue to shape who bears the costs of sustaining everyday life.
At Preserving Futures, we are interested in a different set of measures for success: ones grounded in care, sustainability and equality. Not an economy organised around extraction, but one organised around flourishing.
Perhaps progress is not about moving faster.
Perhaps it is about moving with intention towards the futures we wish to preserve.

The most important thing I’ve preserved isn’t in a jar. It’s been the vision.
Moving to Edinburgh gave me space to reflect on what Preserving Futures is really for.
The answer wasn’t “more products” or “more sales.”
It was creating systems of care. Supporting local makers. Demonstrating different ways of doing business. Building something that can thrive without burning people out.
That’s why we’re making some strategic changes behind the scenes, including exploring a partnership model that allows the business to have roots in both Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Slow growth. Shared ownership. Strong communities.
That’s still the recipe.

It’s been a little quieter here than usual.
Over the past few months, I’ve been moving from Glasgow to Edinburgh, taking stock of what Preserving Futures could become, and thinking carefully about how to grow without losing the values that sit at its heart.
This has never just been about preserves. It’s always been about care, community, good food, meaningful work, and creating economic opportunities that put people before profit.
As part of that journey, I’m exploring a new chapter: building a stronger Glasgow presence, bringing Preserving Futures to Edinburgh and onboarding a business partner for Preserving Futures to grow.
The goal isn’t simply to get bigger. It’s to create something more sustainable, more collaborative, and more rooted in the communities we care about.
More updates soon. Thank you to everyone who has supported this project so far. 💚

That means:
– small batches that fit into a life, purposeful making instead of capitalistic extraction
– fair pricing that reflects labour and care
– choosing community spaces for impact over scale
– refusing urgency as a business model

Unfortunately we won’t be at Springfest but we’ll announce our next events soon! 🌼🌱

💨Springfest this weekend is now POSTPONED! 🌬️

📅NEW DATES: Festival now set to take place on 18th and 19th April 📅

We had hoped that despite the forecasted poor weather for this weekend’s Springfest26, the festival could still take place. However, with wind speeds on Saturday night strengthening significantly in this morning’s forecasts, we have reached the decision to postpone it until 18th and 19th April.

🗣️Speaking about the decision, Audrey Calder from Loch Lomond Shores commented:
“Forecasted wind speeds on Saturday night mean that it is no longer safe to install all the equipment and temporary structures that are a huge part of the festival.
“We had hoped that forecasted winds would drop, but this has sadly not been the case. Given this, and that our number one priority is the safety of our visitors and festival team, Springfest26 will now take place on the 18th and 19th April, with hopefully better weather!”
