A big change in our household this week... My little boy is now officially a school boy! 🏫🎒

And I kinda feel like we've finally 'made it' because my little girl is also switching to term-time hours at nursery, which means our childcare bill is officially ZERO! 🎉😂

So what does that mean for Sweet & Fair?

From next week, I'll have four school days a week to get my work done in peace, which gives me a bit more consistency. BUT it also means I won't have childcare outside of term time.

So I’ll probably only be taking on orders during school term time from now on, so that I can keep the school holidays for family time 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦❤️

However, I haven’t quite decided if my new rule will apply to the whole of next summer (apparently the summer holidays in 2027 are SEVEN weeks long?! 👀). I'm not sure I can afford to take that long off, plus summer is peak wedding season and dessert tables are one of my favourite things to create!

So I'll probably still take on a few events, but I might have to be a little more selective ☀️🍰

Being self-employed definitely comes with its challenges, but I absolutely love the flexibility it gives me and the fact that I can fit work around my family life 🥰

Here's to a new chapter for our little family - and hopefully a slightly more predictable one for Sweet & Fair too! ✨

A christening cake ✝️🍰

Thank you if you commented on my last post about buffets, and whether or not they've had their day...

I actually made this cake for the same event as that buffet. I do like that I'm able to basically be a one-stop shop for parties and events. From savoury to sweet, including celebration cakes, I've got you covered 😎

So I don't think it's time to drop the buffets just yet. Perhaps I just need to re-jiggle my website a little (when I find the time!) to make what I love doing most the biggest focus ❤️

And possibly remove altogether the things I don't like...
(Yes, tuna mayo, I'm talking about you 🐟🙅‍♀️)

A little look back at a buffet from June, and a little food for thought about where Sweet & Fair is heading 🤔

I’ve always loved that my business has never been just one thing. From afternoon teas and buffets to cakes and dessert tables, I’ve enjoyed having lots of different things to offer.

But lately I’ve been wondering whether there’s something to be said for specialising a little more.

I’m not quite ready to wave goodbye to buffets just yet (they’re an important part of the business), but I do think it might be time to start thinking about what I really want Sweet & Fair to be known for.

And I’d love to know what you think! 👇

"Do you offer wedding dessert tasting boxes?" 💍🍰

I'd love to be able to say yes to this every time, but because everything is freshly homemade to order, I don't usually have the time to make so many different items just for samples.

This week, though, I spotted a little gap in my diary and decided to make it happen for one lovely couple. I baked 9 different desserts and put together a box with 2 of each item, so they could sit down to taste everything and decide which treats to choose for their wedding dessert table.

Of course, making so many different bakes meant I had plenty left over! Rather than eat them all myself...🐒 I held a 'virtual cake sale', advertising on my local Facebook group for my neighbours and nearby community to collect.

Then, by coincidence, I received another wedding dessert table enquiry that very same day! They were delighted to grab one of the tasting boxes too. While it might not contain the exact desserts they'll eventually choose, it gives them a really good idea of the quality, flavours and style they can expect on their wedding day. 💒

Wedding cakes don't have to be big!

When you've got a whole table full of mini cakes or desserts, a 6" white chocolate & raspberry cake is all you really need for that iconic cake cutting moment 🤵‍♂️👰‍♀🔪🍰

🌸 How stunning are these flowers from Nurtured in Norfolk ?

Instead of a traditional tiered wedding cake, this bride opted for an entire table spread of cakes, featuring:

🎂 A single-tier white chocolate and raspberry cutting cake, decorated with edible pressed flowers

🧁 60 mini cakes topped with edible fresh flowers, in three flavours:
- blueberry and lemon
- chocolate fudge cake
- carrot cake

I absolutely loved this idea and had so much fun bringing it to life. It made such a beautiful alternative to a traditional wedding cake, and the individual glass domes kept everything fresh while creating a stunning display 💕

Don't you just love the way toddlers run? 🥹

After a really busy month of catering in May, it was lovely to slow down and escape to Tenerife for a family holiday celebrating my mum’s milestone birthday.

Whale watching, swimming in the sea, camel rides, mini golf, water park days, and plenty of delicious food 🥰

✨️ MAY RECAP ✨️

My videography skills may leave a lot to be desired, but just thought I'd share a recap of the catering I did in May, before I move on to June content! Here's what I did, week by week:

1. Salad bar (and hot dogs) for a church event for 120+ 🥗

2. Enchanted Forest-themed dessert table for a university society ball (400 mini desserts) 🍄

3. Afternoon Tea for 48 guests at a 40th birthday party ☕️

4. Managed to squeeze in a 6 day holiday to Tenerife (more on that story later) 🏖

5. 600 mini desserts for a wedding 💒

Without a doubt, the busiest month I've had yet! 🥰

Went to a marketing conference for small business owners today and listened to a talk called “It’s just a post: How to tick off your marketing in 10 minutes a day without overthinking it”
