Aww… I was so delighted to be asked to interview for The Human Collective page last night at Festival!! 🩷🙌🏼
I’ve followed the page for a while, it’s great, give it a follow too! 🩷
"My name is Lisa and for 20 years I've performed in bands all over, mostly singing in punk, ska and alternative music bands. I love singing, like love it in my bones.
I actually put on an event called Women of Noise dedicated to women in the music industry because I feel like it needs a platform and needs celebrated a wee bit, we had one last year and there's another this year. I just love the ethos of punk, doing it yourself, doing it your own way with a bit of anarchy, that's how I live my life.
When I turned 40, I fell into life coaching and it blew my mind, I trained and decided to try it out, do it differently in my own way. My mantra is "self love is punk as f**k", not sure if you can print that (I can😂) and this is how Body Anarchy began.
The main reason I started Body Anarchy was a went through a really tough couple of years, I found coaching and self development, through doing that and working on myself, I realised for the first time it was having a positive impact on how I felt about my body. As someone who has been on a “diet” my whole life and never connected or happy with my body, I realised diet culture was at the root of that disconnect.
Self development, self love and radical responsibility for my life and doing it my way completely changed the way I felt about everything including my body. I love her and I take care of her in a completely different way now.
Body Anarchy is Anti-Diet culture. It’s about finding out who you are and loving the body you get to experience life in, on your terms
I feel strongly about helping women connect with their own bodies, not in a way that it's something that needs fixed, but to celebrate their body for being just the way it is, it's about body ownership. Not to bodyshame change, it's helping women recognise that they own their body, and use radical self love and other fun ways to take care of it through nutrition and movement.
We also do deep dives into self development work. The community is awesome, we’re kinda like a girl gang. There's lots of expressive stuff like songwriting, writing poetry and painting too.
The main goal is helping women love and celebrate the bodies and looking after them from a place of total love.
It's the best job in the world, I love it so much. I have to pinch myself somedays because it genuinely gives me so much joy. It's mostly an online community, but we do get together in person occasionally. Next Saturday we're going to go singing up a hill and jump in the water as well as plenty of dancing.
People can turn up as they are and leave with a new outlook, it's about finding out who you are, deep down underneath it all and helping women discover that in the most natural and loving way"
If you've enjoyed Lisa's story, give it a wee share! I'm back at the Silverburn Festival today where I met Lisa last night and I'm looking forward to meeting a few more people today 📷
