Spotty Hat, Big Milestone: Two Years in the Saddle…

The polka dot bucket hat is my nod to my favourite sporting event, the Tour de France. The dots represent the best climber in the race, and I’ll be wearing it throughout the three week race.
My love affair began in the 1980s, watching the highlights as a teenager on Channel 4, on a huge old TV with a flimsy aerial and a fuzzy picture. Since then I’ve been lucky enough to watch the race for real…with family, with friends, and even on my own. Waiting patiently on a high mountain pass with thousands of others, just to see your sporting heroes flash by in an instant. It’s madness, but I love it. These riders epitomise my motto: by endurance we conquer.

Sometimes running a coffee cart business solo feels a lot like riding the Tour de France. Good days and bad days, heavily affected by the elements, but in the end a great sense of achievement. We’re coming up to our second anniversary, and it’s felt pretty much flat out, like a bike race. We’re working on getting more efficient and improving how we run things, but most importantly, we’re staying focused on serving great coffee and bakes with a welcoming smile.

Two years in the saddle and we’re not slowing down. Big birthday offers coming your way the first week of August…keep your eyes peeled! 🎉

At Perk Up Coffee we want to celebrate England playing in the semi-finals this week on Perk Up Wednesday.

We’re giving away a free coffee & bake to the follower who guesses the minute the first goal is scored! (Either team… hopefully the first of many for England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿).

It’s simple, follow us, like this post, and comment the minute you think the first goal will be scored. You don’t even have to like football to enter!

Entries close at kick-off, 8pm Wednesday. If two guesses match, we’ll pick a winner at random. We’ll announce the winner Thursday morning!

Was Saturday a success? ☀️

Afternoon events in a heatwave aren’t always the perfect Perk Up match… but 4th birthday summer party might just be the exception.

The setup was perfect: live music stage, shady seating, and traders dotted round the edge with a stunning view across the valley. We were tucked between the brilliant and

A gorgeous breeze rolled through as families flowed in for live music, iced coffee, fresh brewed beers, BBQ, cheese, ice cream and local wines. Genuinely one of those perfect summer days.

We rolled home at 7:30pm…cleaned up and packed away just in time to smash some burgers, tuck into our , and sit down for the football (I may have snoozed through extra time 😴). All in all a brilliant day.

Huge thanks to Mrs Perk Up for jumping in to help and doing the mid afternoon restock run! 🙌

And a big shoutout to Perk Up regular Ella… she’s backed us since pretty much day one and invited us to . So glad we came. See you for the 5th birthday next year 🎉. I can highly recommend the farm shop and brewery too! The perfect sausage roll & beer combo.

We’ll be back on the river Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. Have a lovely Sunday!

Come on England ⚽️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Oh my, it’s tough working outside in this heat! Hats off to all you outside workers. The crane guys from the riverside development always love their mid morning lattes and bakes after their first stint in the blazing sun. And my “dog walking” business owners have pivoted to very early morning walks to keep their furry clients happy.

It gets me thinking when it’s this hot… should I sell ice cream? It might seem obvious, but it’s not a simple decision. It adds a whole new dimension to a one-person coffee business with limited power and space!

So for now, we’re improving our iced drinks range. We’ll whip the cold milk for iced mochas and chocolates to make them smoother, and we might even try an iced espresso with cold foam.

We’ll keep baking lighter, more suitable bakes for the hotter months, and we’ll keep chasing the shade around Kelson’s Field.

The upside? Early morning by the river is absolutely perfect before the midday heat arrives. Lovely seeing so many of you making the most of that this week.

Time to bake for Saturday’s Somer Valley Farm summer party. Hope to see you there from 12-7 🌞

One thing we’ll never do at Perk Up Coffee…

Charge you extra for oat milk. Or ice. Or both.

Your latte…hot, iced, oat, whatever you fancy…it’s £3.40. Simple as that.

No hidden extras. No awkward “that’ll be 60p more.” Just great coffee at a fair price, the way it should be.

Come and find us every Wed to Fri on the Bath riverside path from 8am to 2pm☕

Last Sunday morning I made a poor decision. I’d been at the Isle of Wight Festival for 2 days and Sunday was the final day, but I was exhausted from navigating the heat and crazy crowds on crutches (recovering from a plantar fascia tear in my foot) and I decided to stay away from the festival on the last day and let my family go in alone, even though I really wanted to see the Cure who were headlining.

‘By Endurance We Conquer’ is my motto, so why was I not living up to that?

Little Miss Perk Up went quiet when I explained. She then gave me a pep talk. It was Father’s Day, we need to be together, and the act I wanted to see most of all was the Cure, so I’d regret not putting up with the trek on crutches for what would be a great day.

She may only be 23 this Sunday, but she can teach her dad a few things about squeezing everything you can out of each day.

Sunday was my favourite day at the festival! Thanks Rubus and happy birthday for Sunday. Thanks also for helping me set up and pack away this week!

A big thank you this week to everyone who came to the cart and supported us too. It was a challenge in the heat but so lovely to see you all chasing the shade in Kelson’s Field and enjoying our iced coffees.
