Perk Up Paradox, Powerbanks, Pals & a Sneak Peek...
The Perk Up family are incredibly supportive and want the business to succeed... well, most of the time.
The exception is Friday afternoon. They secretly hope that not all the bakes sell, eagerly waiting for the cart to arrive home with a few leftovers. “Anything for me?” is usually the first question through the door. Sadly, this week they were left fighting over little more than a few fudgy flapjack crumbs!
To soften the blow, we headed to the Dorset coast on Saturday, and I think a Mr Whippy ice cream went some way towards making up for the lack of leftover treats after our aging legs climbed Golden Cap.
Talking of things showing their age, our trusty power bank, which keeps the coffee grinder and water pumps running, has been hinting that retirement might be approaching. Over the last couple of weeks it’s cut out a few times and, on one occasion, stopped halfway through making a flat white and a long black. Sorry again, Milford and Anne-Marie!
So this weekend we’re upgrading to some shiny new, high tech kit to keep everything running smoothly. It turns out that physics degree from 35 years ago has finally come in useful.
Now, a quick shout out to Dave and Jon who are officially certified Perk Up Pals. While I’m busy grinding, tamping, extracting, steaming and pouring, they’re often helping with tables and chairs before I’ve even had a chance to ask. They’ve been a great support to us, always make us laugh, and it’s a pleasure seeing them each week.
And finally, speaking of grinding and tamping, Little Miss Perk Up has been helping bring some new ideas to life for our upcoming second birthday celebrations. We’re working on some Perk Up merchandise, and here’s a sneak peek at one of her designs...
