Earlier today, we were at an event hosted by The David Hume Institute at the Institut Français, Edinburgh.

As discussions unfolded around Economy, Society and Policy, we were honoured to bring the flavours of Nigeria to the table — literally. It was powerful to see how Nigerian cuisine, from Jollof rice to Veggie spring rolls and peppered sauce, was not just well-received but sought after and appreciated by such a diverse audience.

Food is culture. And at events like this, it becomes connection — between backgrounds, ideas, and communities.

People usually tell you to do 7 things; but we say do only 1 thing and we’ll take care of the other 6.

Today makes exactly 2 years since we opened our doors to serve at 250-252 Leith Walk: indeed a new Uwagboe’s Kitchen & Grill was born!

What started as my wife and I cooking in our home kitchen, doing weekend pop-ups from our African shop… has grown into two busy Edinburgh locations on Leith Walk and Gorgie Road, serving up bold, authentic Nigerian food every single day.

But this journey has never been just about food.

It’s about culture, community, and creating a space where everyone feels welcome — not just our African brothers and sisters, but anyone who loves rich, soulful flavours.

Running a restaurant has been personal, challenging, and so rewarding.
Every dish carries our story. Every guest becomes part of the Uwagboe’s family.

Thank you for supporting us on this journey.

Here’s to more years of flavour, connection, and growth.
