Dear community and Idris Stores customers,
After a lot of thought, we’ve decided to scale back the shop and café opening hours for a while and move to opening on Fridays only, alongside our monthly karaoke and open mic nights.
When we first moved to the village, we took over the shop almost immediately and have spent the last few years pouring our hearts into building it — learning as we went, trying new ideas, creating events, making food, meeting people, and slowly shaping it into something that felt welcoming and creative.
In that same time, we’ve also welcomed two little boys into our family, and as much as we’ve loved growing the business, the pace of trying to balance everything has become difficult to sustain. Over the past few months, we’ve realised we need to take a step back, simplify things, and give ourselves some space to reassess what a healthy and sustainable future for the shop might look like — both for us as a family and for the business itself.
This isn’t something we’ve decided lightly. We know the shop and café have become more than just a place to grab a coffee, and we really value the sense of community that’s grown around it. That’s why we still want to keep Fridays going and continue the music nights that we’ve all enjoyed so much together.
We’d also still love for the space to be used creatively by others in the community. If anyone has ideas for classes, workshops, pop-ups, gigs, supper clubs, exhibitions, or other events they’d like to host, please feel free to get in touch — we’d be really happy to help facilitate things where we can.
We’re incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported us, encouraged us, helped us, and shown up over the last few years. It truly means more than you probably realise.
For now, we’re choosing to slow things down a little, spend some time with our boys while they’re small, and take the opportunity to reflect on what comes next. We hope people will understand, and we’re looking forward to still seeing you on Fridays and at the music nights.
With love and gratitude,
Fran, James, Rory, Milo and Hector
