This weekend saw the Welsh Ladies Team Championships take place at St Mellons GC

After a practice round on Friday, Whitchurch - Cardiff Golf Club Ladies played Southerndown GC on Saturday and narrowly lost 3&2. On the Sunday Whitchurch Ladies were amongst 12 teams competing for the Margaret Wood plate. This still remained a tough competition with a lot of teams fielding low single handicap players for a scratch event. It was a 4BBB medal round with the best two scores out of three counting.

The Whitchurch - Cardiff Golf Club team comprised of Victoria Spiller, Pam Chugg, Ceri Godwin, Ann Roberts, Julie Gibbons and Mallory Armstrong. The team was supported by their Lady Captain, Deb Lomasney.

The combined team score of 147 was sufficient to secure victory to win the Margaret Wood Plate by one point. Pontadawe and Haverfordwest finished runners up, both, with a score of 148.

Victoria and Pam played together to record a gross score of 69, against a par of 72, to achieve the lowest pair’s score. Also, worthy of special mention is Ceri Godwin who recorded 4 birdies in her round. Summer drought conditions made it challenging golf.

It was a superb team effort and brought great credit to Whitchurch - Cardiff Golf Club
