How to find us!

25/07/2021

Vanny has a (very last minute) new home!

Over the summer our beautiful food truck will be working with another community of volunteers at The Newnam Miniature Railway.

With our new Pizza Oven and Crepes, delicious homemade Bakes & Cakes, Ice Creams, Smoothies, Milkshakes and of course fresh Coffee however you like it, their open days and the parties being held there will be covered!
So glad we could help and thank you to the exceptionally understanding and genuinely helpful chaps who came and grabbed the truck at the last minute 😊

Our first afternoon and it did not disappoint - (even my tween and her bestie had a blast on the trains!)

Lovely to meet so many new people and of course see some of our regular customers!

Here’s to small businesses supporting each other ❤️Vanny is very much looking forward to spending the summer with the trains 🚂

Sending these to the taste test man himself
*********
I test most of my random or new recipes on him - he’s not fussy and will eat basically anything, but will tell me when I get it right (or wrong!)
The other lunches I’m sending are pretty protein/veggie heavy so I don’t think he’ll mind the carb hit from these ❤️

Rugby players are not hard to feed. They’re hungry and are genuinely excited about food 😅
Even at National One level (top 35 teams in the country) these guys have to have other jobs - tough when you’re expected to perform as a pro.
They work incredibly hard - their 90 minutes of training is full on, they don’t stop. The intensity is high - not just physically demanding but mentally too. It’s a long day!

Hydration is a hot topic with the summer (🤔) upon us and discussions around how much everyone should be drinking are important.

The biggest issue we have as sportspeople is our level of hydration PRE TRAINING.
This will have an effect on our performance without a doubt, but also our mood and how we behave (just as being fuelled does.)

During training, the advice is to drink to thirst - but if you start hydrated this may only be a few sips over the course of session. We can look at sweat loss of each individual of course, but something as simple as 500mls with electrolytes post training (or a drink with a salty snack like pretzels or corn chips) and then maybe an extra drink in the evening should under normal circumstances cover us.

The key is to work on hydration every single day. The days when you’re sweat loss is the same as any other person. Once you are dehydrated, it can take a good few days to pull it back - but once you’re there (and you’ll know because people will tell you how healthy and glowing you look!) maintenance is relatively straight forward, no matter how hard you train or how much you sweat.

I have discovered the most brilliant part to feeding athletes (in particular rugby players!) is that they are fairly easily pleased (somewhat of a relief to a non-caterer 😅)
————————
With a selection of dietary requirements between a group of 40 players and staff, I try to keep the carb base of the meal for everyone and switch about the proteins - so far it seems to be working 😅
————————-
Eating after a serious training session is so important - not just for physical recovery fuel, but for the time it gives the team to sit down as a group, take 10 minutes and download a little together. That bonding time is essential in team sport - it’s a huge part of the glue that allows the individuals to move continuously as one towards their destination.

When you talk to people A LOT about food, training, performance, goals etc etc & work your arse off to help people be even better than they were/are it can often feel like you want it for them more than they do for themselves and it can become a little demoralising even for a positive energy person like me.

Then BOOM!

I can’t put into words how much this photo meant when I received it last night ... one tiny boost, and all the crap is forgotten ❤️🙌
