Yesterday was one of the hardest days I’ve had in over 5 years of running my business 💔
For the very first time, I had to cancel an order on the morning of collection. When the cake was almost finished, I suddenly came down with a stomach bug and had no choice but to stop.
As heartbreaking as it was to let down such a lovely and understanding client at the last minute, there are situations where continuing simply isn’t an option. In the UK, it’s not just about personal choice — it’s a legal requirement not to work around open food when unwell with something that could be passed on by food contact. More importantly, I would never, ever put profit before the health and safety of my clients and their loved ones.
It was truly soul-destroying to have to throw away a cake that had taken hours of work and significant cost, especially knowing it was for such a special occasion.
Please know that any reputable baker would make the same decision. Sometimes the hardest choices are the right ones.
