“Getting a decent table at a popular coastal spot mid-summer usually involves a fair bit of queuing and polite elbowing. However, the front-of-house team at Jetty Broadstairs (tucked away at the Pier Head Kiosk) proved remarkably accommodating. Despite the rather intimate size of the place, they managed to seat my niece, my nephew, and me right by the window. It’s a brilliant vantage point, and the sweeping harbour views set a rather lovely tone for our late lunch on the 7th of August.
The kitchen here clearly understands what it’s doing, elevating standard bistro fare without being overly fussy about it. We kept our drinks simple—ginger beer, a San Pellegrino, sugar-free Coke, and a jug of chilled tap water. My niece chose the mussels for her main course; they arrived beautifully steamed in a classic, fragrant broth of garlic, fresh chilli, and white wine, complete with properly toasted bread for dipping. My nephew went for the burrata and black truffle tortellini. It was an unexpectedly elegant plate for a seaside venue, featuring delicate pasta parcels tossed in a glossy truffle butter, finished with sharp parmesan, wild rocket, and sweet cherry tomatoes.
I opted for the beef burger, and it was entirely spot on. The kitchen uses a proper aged ribeye and chuck patty, pairing it with rich melted cheese, sharp pickled cucumber, tangy tomato chutney, and a rather decadent truffle mayo inside a toasted brioche bun. Instead of standard fries, it came with a generous portion of wonderfully crisp sweet potato chips and a decent homemade coleslaw. Absolutely nothing was left on the plate.
What genuinely elevated the afternoon, though, was the service. Our server, Mandy, was brilliantly swift and attentive, managing to keep an eye on us without ever hovering or being intrusive. When we settled up just before three o'clock, I was pleasantly surprised to note the absence of a mandatory service charge—a rarity these days. We were more than happy to leave a proper tip for Mandy to reflect the excellent standard of care. A triumphant little dining spot that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.”
