And that’s a wrap.

A big thank you to Kingsway Park for having us.

The Mental Health & Resilience Programme has reached 61 schools and thousands of students in this academic year.

Through engaging lived experience sessions, digital resources for students, and sessions for parents, we’ve loved every minute.

We can’t wait to reach more schools next academic year, with sessions being booked already and planning well under way.

A huge thank you to for your support and making this happen!

There are moments that remind you why lived experience matters.

This week marked Week 5 of our 10-week recovery programme at HMP Kirkham.

What makes this programme even more special is that one of our facilitators, Reece, wasn’t always standing at the front of the room.

He once sat on the other side of it as a prisoner in the very same prison.

Today, he’s back, not as an inmate, but helping others explore topics including addiction and recovery, changing behaviours, mental health, stress and resilience, relationships, identity, values, and preparing for life beyond prison.

At WHYSUP, we believe lived experience has the power to reach people in a way that statistics and textbooks often can’t. It gives people hope, builds trust, and shows that change is possible.

We’re incredibly proud of Reece and excited to continue supporting the men over the next five weeks as they build practical tools, reflect on their journey, and prepare for a brighter future.

Sometimes the most powerful person to lead the way is someone who’s already walked the path. 💙

A big shout out to Oly, who this week delivered sessions at Wardle Academy and Kingsway Park.
That’s another 500 students who have taken part in our Lived Experience Mental Health & Resilience sessions in partnership with The JD Foundation.

This programme has now reached around 13,000 students this academic year, and we’ve loved connecting with young people across Greater Manchester.

A special thanks to Oly, who has been a huge part of the delivery team throughout the year. Your passion, energy and commitment have made a real difference.

Oly’s looking so happy in this photo because he’s got 250 completed feedback forms in his hands. Sometimes you just have to take it back to old school! 🙂

Do you know of an elderly care home in Bolton that might like to get involved?

At Whysup, everything we do is built around - Raising Awareness Through Lived Experience.

We’re looking to partner with a local care home to capture the stories, wisdom and life lessons of the older generation. Their experiences have shaped who they are, and we believe those lessons can inspire and educate the next generation.

We’ll use the content across our social media channels and within our education sessions in schools, helping thousands of young people hear directly from those who have lived through decades of change, challenge, resilience and hope.

Sometimes the greatest teachers aren’t found in textbooks - they’re found in the people who have lived the stories.

If you work in, manage, or know of a care home in Bolton that may be interested, we’d love to have a conversation.

Please tag them below or contact us at [email protected]

Thank you. 💙

Year 6 at St Joseph’s RC Primary School have become Brain Detectives!

We explored how our amazing brains can sometimes trigger a ‘worry alarm 🚨’ and send us ‘fake news’. Through fun, interactive activities, pupils learnt how to spot unhelpful thoughts, check the facts, use their ‘kind mind’, and build practical tools to take back control from worry.

Empowering young minds with confidence, resilience and emotional wellbeing - one detective at a time! 💙

Last week it was great to catch up with Joe and Julie Foster.

I’ve recently been lucky enough to become a co-author alongside Joe in his final book - Survive & Thrive.

We spoke about many things, but I couldn’t resist asking Joe plenty about Reebok, the Bolton born brand he co-founded.

It reminded me of a story from when I was 12.

A few days after Bolton Wanderers played their final game at Burnden Park, me and my mate sneaked into the ground for one last kickabout. We even took a camera with us (photos below 🙂).

I took a penalty at the Lever End, scored, and celebrated in front of the Burnden Terrace pretending I was John McGinlay.

Before we left, I spotted one of the giant Reebok billboards that had been fixed to the Burnden Terrace. It was around 10 feet long, made of plywood, and I decided I was taking it home for my bedroom.

I carried it on my head for about 4 miles back to Halliwell.

My mum wasn’t impressed when I knocked on the door with it, but she let me keep it in my bedroom. I loved having it there. It reminded me of Burnden Park and of Reebok - a brand born in Bolton.

Little did I know that 30 years later I’d be sitting with Joe Foster, not talking about that billboard, but co-authoring a book with him.

Life has a funny way of coming full circle. ❤️

A big shout out to the Year 9 & 10 students at Canon Slade High School.

With today’s heat, it’s not easy sitting through a full session listening to an external speaker, but around 600 students, listened, engaged and took in every word.

Today’s session focused on Habits & Addictions, with a particular focus on drugs – a topic that’s more important than ever for young people today.

Thank you for having us. We hope to see you all again next year.

And with that, my final school session of this academic year is complete.

Over and out. 🙂
