We visited the brand new pub - ‘The Great Decoy’. We moved to the village last year, and have been eagerly waiting for it to open since. And yesterday, we had the chance to dine there.

***The Pub***

They have done such a good job of restoring the outside, including some lovely lighting, classic colours and an amazing court yard.

As we entered the front door we were hit by the smell of the 4 log fires throughout the pub - nice touch for a cold June evening!

The staff were superb. Friendly and very attentive. For a warm opening that’s impressive to get right immediately.

We were sat in one of the 5 areas, situated next to the HT junction. A nicely decorated room, and one of the more quieter areas (no music).

***The Food***

We ordered two main courses with some sides. The starters look aces, but we’ll save ourselves for next time! The first dish was the seafood and fish stew/bisque. Incredible! The flavours were really intense with seafood, and packed with clams, monkfish (perfectly cooked), and I believe salmon. A lovely surprise was the fluffy and slightly tart hollandaise on top. Really very nice. It’s just a top dish.

The other order was the flank beef steak with chimichurri and fries. The steak was medium rare as ordered, tender and nicely seasoned (often missed!). The fries were great. A little fluffy in the middle, but gnarly, broken and crispy on the outside - a sign of going through the proper processes of making the best chips! But, the star (if not the steak) was the garlicky, herby chimichurri. Bundles of flavour!

***The Bar***

We ‘retreated’ to the bar for a drink to end the evening. We love it in the bar! The different areas, and range of seating. And, the music was very very cool. A mix of world music - right up our street! Lastly, the atmosphere is fantastic here. Bustling with laughter and chit chat. We had a glass of red w**e one at the perfect temperature - not cold at all! And the thick, sweet port (Late Bottled Vintage) was the same.

***Overall***

What an edition to the amazing pubs in our area! And it’s now our favourite. It really is an absolute feat of style and quality. We’re already going back several times over the next few weeks.

We visited Paultons’ brand new Viking-themed land - Valgard, and tried the food at their amazing Feast Hall restaurant.

This was our first visit to Paultons, and we were incredibly impressed! The attractions are fantastic, service and ops are impeccable, and the overall atmosphere is perfect.

Valgard is their newest land, spending over £12 million on 2 new attractions - one of which is called Drakon - their first inversion coaster in the park. It was insane! The theming is so great, and the ride is smooth. A nice little ‘hang time’ inversion towards the end too.

For lunch we popped to the Feasting Hall, which once opened next year has a terrace overlooking the currently under construction Mack water coaster.

Inside is very very well themed. We loved the giant lit-up skull, and the Viking boat filled with tables and chairs. Unfortunately the boat was reserved which was a shame.

We ordered the chicken thighs with crinkle cut fries and beans. We went for plain chicken because we my 4yo daughter was going to have it too. So, we ordered the hot sauce on the side. Top tip - pop some of the sauce in the beans. It was so good. The chicken was very similar to Nando’s, although I think this is better. Really tender and tasty. The fries were lovely too!

The drink ordered with the meal was their new ‘Golden Apple Frost’. It was smaller than expected, and the cream on top was a little flatter than the pictures. But, it really was so good. Imagine an apple flavours slushy with a sweet, butterscotch cream topping. I can not wait to try it again. It’s included with the price of the meal (£17.95) but you can just order the drink at around £4.

Overall, what an amazing land to go with the already amazing existing lands. Such a great increment!

We had a fantastic meal, and in such a lovely restaurant. The menu offers anything vaguely Med-inspired. So there’s Turkish, Italian and Spanish. The pita with 3 dips were great way to start. For main we shared a pork and chorizo souvlaki, prawns in chilli and garlic (Gambas Pil Pil) and Patatas Bravas. Not only was the food great, but very good service from the friendly staff.

We will be back soon!

We had such a great time, and ate some absolutely incredible food! Our highlight was the Chinese pork & chicken dumplings, served with a tasty homemade chilli chutney. They were so juicy, and packed with Asian flavours. We also loved the Hungarian Langos - a savoury donut topped with bacon and cheese. Wow! 🚙☀️🇨🇳🇭🇺

We can’t wait to visit again….
