Something interesting at one of the DD Bees hives on Saturday morning.

This colony had recently shown signs that it may have been preparing to swarm, so we removed the old queen and left the bees with one queen cell.

By the look of the activity at the entrance, that queen cell may now have produced a new virgin queen. The bees seemed very active around the front of the hive, which may have been linked to the new queen emerging, orientating, or preparing for her mating flights.

A virgin queen is not a laying queen yet. She still has to mature, take her mating flights, return safely, and then hopefully start laying eggs.

We will now leave them in peace for a while and check later to see whether she has mated successfully 🐝🥰

We have been overwhelmed by all the interest about DD Bees and when to expect more delicious honey 🍯 Our colonies have been super busy and we are expecting a healthy harvest in the next month or so 🤞 we are really excited and will keep you posted 🐝 in the meantime we hope you enjoy these photos of our busy and amazing DD Bees 🥰

Can’t believe we have sold all our Spring harvest honey! 🍯 So grateful for all your orders 🐝 🫶

We will hopefully have some more from our Summer harvest soon and will keep you posted.

In the meantime DH Robertson still have some jars of runny and soft set left. If you haven’t already tried their amazing spicy chicken kebabs, give them a go with a drizzle of DD Bees runny, delicious hot honey combo 😋
