🌕 CHUSEOK WITH US 🌕
Chuseok is Korea’s harvest and full moon festival, one of the biggest celebrations of the year, and the Musée Guimet is marking it with a whole weekend of events. We’re going together, in two groups!
📅 Sunday Sept. 27th, 2PM
📍 Musée Guimet, 6 Place d’Iéna, 75016
👥 GROUP 1: Chuseok program
🏮 A short guided introduction to Chuseok in the Korea rooms
🎲 Traditional Korean games like ddakji and yut nori
📚 At 3:30, a talk at Maison Guimet (19 avenue d’Iéna) with authors Nolwenn Giardina and Jean-Claude de Crescenzo, comparing their views of South Korea old and new: illustrated travel diaries on one side, the forgotten Seoul of the 80s and 90s on the other. Book signing afterwards!
👥 GROUP 2: “Le savoir en trompe-l’œil. Corée, 18e-20e s.”
🖼️ The new exhibition on chaekgeori, Korean trompe-l’œil bookshelf paintings. It all started with King Jeongjo, too busy to read, who had his library painted onto a screen to stay close to his books. From scholarly shelves to dreamlike worlds full of fantastic animals, it shows a Joseon Korea open to China, Japan and Europe, far from the “hermit kingdom” cliché.
🎟️ Free for EU citizens under 26, otherwise 15€
