🏛️ Moce Mada Taciqu‼️ 🕊️💙

Those heartfelt words echoed through the silence of midnight as the QVS Old Boys gathered to bid their final farewell to one of their own.

Last night marked the final vigil at home for Brisco, the name by which he was affectionately known. His real name, Semesa Vakacegu, carries with it the legacy of a life lived with humility, laughter, and brotherhood.

This is what true brotherhood looks like. Though the years spent together at Vunituraga ended long ago, the bond forged within those school walls has endured. In times like these, that bond speaks louder than words, as classmates stood shoulder to shoulder to honour a brother they will never forget.

Yesterday, Semesa made one last journey to his workplace in Walu Bay, under the Ministry of Public Works. There, colleagues, family, and friends gathered for a church service to celebrate his life and service. His workmates then accompanied him home to his brother’s residence in Colo-i-Suva, where he spent his final night surrounded by love before being laid to rest.

Originally from Mabula, Cicia in Lau, with maternal ties to Narocivo, Nayau, Semesa’s roots ran deep into the islands that shaped him.

He passed away on 25 June 2026, just five days after celebrating his 41st birthday! For this father of three, it is indeed a life gone too soon, but one that left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Funeral service will be held this morning at 9am at the Moraia Methodist Church in Colo-I-Suva before he is laid to rest at Wainibuku Cemetery!

It is with profound sadness that the Qalobula Family of Mabula, Cicia, Lau, announces the passing of our beloved son, brother, cousin, uncle and devoted father of three, Semesa Vakacegu, who passed away on 25 June 2026 at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva.

Semesa who celebrated his 41st birthday 5 days before his passing, was the eldest son of the late Jone Ledua of Mataqali Ravanua, in the village of Mabula, Cicia, Lau, and Matelita Maba of the Delaiwawa Household of Narocivo, Nayau, Lau.

He began his education at Mabula District School before continuing to Queen Victoria School and Dudley High School. Throughout his life, Semesa dedicated himself to serving others. He worked with the Ministry of Education, spent several years fulfilling his traditional obligations in his home village, and at the time of his passing was employed by the Public Works Department.

Semesa is survived by his three beloved children, Sekope, Adi Tini, and Jope; his loving mother, Matelita Maba; his three sisters; and his two brothers. He will be deeply missed by his family, relatives, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

Reguregu will commence on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, at Forestry Quarters 23, Colo-i-Suva.

His funeral service will be held on Thursday, 2 July 2026, at Moraia Methodist Church, Colo-i-Suva, after which he will be laid to rest at 9 Miles Cemetery, Wainibuku.

🕊️ ▪️A son of Rukua has finally returned home▪️🕊️

Born on August 25, 1946, Dakai Bolatagici was called to rest on May 13, 2026, at his home in Auckland, New Zealand.

Last night, after a journey of more than 50 years away from the land of his birth, he arrived back in Fiji for the final time, fulfilling his heartfelt wish to be laid to rest in the village he loved dearly, Rukua in Beqa, the island of firewalking.

He spent one final night at the Bolatagici residence in Navua before making his journey home this morning, sailing to the shores and people that raised him.

Dakai was a proud son of Tokatoka Tiliva, Mataqali Naduruvesi, Yavusa Naduruvesi of Rukua Village. He was the eldest of seven siblings, carrying the strength and responsibility of an older brother throughout his life.

In a heartbreaking chapter for the family, his twin brother Filipe Lilo, also passed away in Suva just three months ago, a reunion now beyond this earthly life.

Though he made New Zealand his home for over five decades, his heart never truly left Fiji. The stories, values, laughter, and spirit of Rukua lived within him always. No matter how far life took him, home remained home.

Today, his beloved wife Olivia, children Semesa, Kesaia, and Navitalai, grandchildren, relatives, and loved ones mourn the loss of a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence will forever remain woven into the memories of those who knew him.

As his loved ones & the people of Rukua he loved most, prepare to lay him to eternal rest, may his soul journey peacefully back to the arms of his ancestors, and may the land he loved receive him gently.

Moce mada Tai Dakai.
You have come home. 🕊️
