SMOKE SHACK – FORMAL STATEMENT REGARDING SOUTH SEAS CLUB
For the information of our customers, supporters, and the wider public, Smoke Shack considers it necessary to clarify the circumstances surrounding the closure of our business at South Seas Club.
Smoke Shack was a lawful tenant of South Seas Club pursuant to a 5-year Tenancy Agreement commencing January 2026, duly entered into and signed by the then Trustees responsible for the administration of the Club.
On 3 July 2026, individuals arrived at the premises accompanied by police officers and verbally instructed Smoke Shack to vacate the property. We were informed that a court order existed and that the premises were to be locked.
Despite being directly affected by the alleged court order, Smoke Shack was not provided with a copy of the order, nor were we given an opportunity to inspect or verify its contents. We were nevertheless instructed by police to leave the premises.
Smoke Shack subsequently sought to deal with the situation in good faith and without confrontation.
On 9 September 2026, a member of the current South Seas Club committee contacted us and instructed us to remove our remaining property from the premises and hand over the keys. We were informed that new tenants had already been found for the premises.
It is important to place on record that Smoke Shack did not receive any formal written notice from the current administration of South Seas Club terminating our Tenancy Agreement, requiring us to vacate, or otherwise formally communicating the basis upon which our tenancy was being brought to an end.
We therefore reserve all rights and remedies available to Smoke Shack in respect of the tenancy, our property, our business interests, and any losses or damages arising from these circumstances.
This statement is not intended to prejudice any legal proceedings or rights that Smoke Shack may have. It is simply to ensure that our customers and the public are aware of the facts from our side and are not left to rely on speculation or misinformation.
WHERE SMOKE SHACK STANDS NOW
For the time being, Smoke Shack remains CLOSED until further notice.
We also wish to make one matter absolutely clear:
SMOKE SHACK WILL NOT OPERATE FROM SOUTH SEAS CLUB.
Whatever the future holds, Smoke Shack will not be returning to those premises.
We thank our loyal customers, supporters, staff, suppliers, friends, and family for standing with us during this difficult and unexpected situation.
