Brasserie Kämp (and Kämp Bar ) will be open until September 1st. As we continue to the next phase of our refurbishment project, we are thrilled to announce the opening of a new pop-up restaurant Notes by Kämp on September 6th.

Notes by Kämp invites you on a culinary journey of decadent dishes and vibrant cocktails in a stylish setting. It's a modern reflection of Kämp's heritage—a perfect meeting place for friends and lovers to enjoy exceptional food and expertly crafted drinks in a lively atmosphere.

When Hotel Kämp opened in 1887, it was the first grand hotel in Finland. In those days, grand hotels were like safe havens to European travelers, with their high standards, familiar amenities and international atmosphere.

Thus, Kämp’s restaurant menu adopted influences from international European culinary trends, mostly French cuisine. The menus were often even written in French! For example, in April 1888, the dinner included Asperges au Beurre, Petit Poulets rôties and Glace de Noisettes – and it sounds still appetizing.

The menu also featured Russian and Scandinavian traditions, such as the ever popular smörgåsbord buffet – but no Finnish dishes, that were perhaps deemed too rural at the time.

Even today, Kämp Brasserie values fine culinary traditions and high standards. This time, we also value local ingredients and influences.

Do you know the story behind our famous Gellhorn cocktail?

Well, during the Winter War in 1939–1940, a great number of foreign correspondents arrived in Finland, most of whom stayed at Hotel Kämp. Among the reporter celebrities was American Martha Gellhorn, who was firmly convinced that Finland would prevail and came to Helsinki to see the city hit by Soviet bombs. The experience gave her tangible proof of the courage and determination of Finns.

‘I think it is possible,’ she wrote to her husband Ernest Hemingway in Cuba, ‘that unless Russia sends an army of four million against these people – that the Finns will win... We have seen an awful lot of kicking around and I like those who deny it and fight.’

In honour of Gellhorn we still serve a legendary drink named after her – a delicious mix of gin, elderflower liqueur, ruby grapefruit juice and champagne syrup, lime juice and rhubarb jam. Have you tasted yet?
