Many people know Matcha, but do you know Houjicha?
Houjicha is basically green tea leaves that have been roasted until they turn brown. It has a roasted aroma similar to lightly roasted coffee, or some say like roasted rice. It’s not astringent or bitter, with a subtle sweetness at the end. Importantly, it has less caffeine than matcha, so you can drink it anytime, day or night.
Normally, I brew it plain, without adding anything, as is my custom. But today, I wanted to try it with fresh coconut water. And after tasting it, I gave it my whole heart, it completely won over the coconut water matcha. It might be because of the unique aroma of Houjicha itself, which the coconut water doesn‘t overpower, allowing you to still savor the captivating roasted scent. It’s subtly similar to lightly roasted fragrant coconut, combined with the mild sweetness of the coconut water – a sweetness that isn‘t overpowering or intense, so you won’t have to put it down after just one sip.
Some things are rejected at first sight simply because they are unfamiliar or unknown. But the fun of life is in doing new things, discovering new things, and adding color and blending them with what we already know. Just don‘t lose your true self, and happiness will be all around you. Trust me!
