Good morning, friends!

As Inti Raymi approaches, the energy in Cotacachi is starting to build.

For many Indigenous communities throughout the Andes, Inti Raymi is far more than music, dancing, and colorful clothing. Celebrated around the June solstice, it is a time to honor Mother Earth, celebrate community, give thanks for the harvest, and reconnect with traditions that have been carried forward for generations.

This year, I've noticed more conversations than ever reminding visitors that Inti Raymi is not a tourist attraction or a photo opportunity. It is a living culture, a celebration with deep meaning, history, and pride.

If you choose to join the festivities this year, I hope you'll take a moment to learn about what is being celebrated and the communities that make it possible.

And if all that dancing works up an appetite, I've got plenty of good food waiting for you!

June's special is Black Bean Ceviche — a fresh blend of black beans, sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, red onion, cilantro, and citrus. Light, refreshing, and perfect for the season.

As always, I'll also have soups, casseroles, salads, falafel, hummus, and all your Gastroventures favorites available.

Please place your order as soon as possible so I have time to shop and prep fresh ingredients.

Pick up Thursday at the Cotacachi Farmers Market from 9:00–11:30 am.

Fresh. Flavorful. Made with Love.

Fresco. Sabroso. Hecho con amor.

A Little Behind-the-Scenes at Gastroventures

Sometimes people ask what it's like running a small food business in Ecuador.

Well... today was a perfect example.

The day started with no water. No warning. No explanation. Just no water.

As any cook knows, that's a bit of a problem. You can’t wash vegetables, sanitize equipment, or prep ingredients without it. So I waited.

Eventually the water came back and I got into the groove of prepping fresh ingredients for this week's meals. Then my gas tank ran out.

No problem, right? I have a spare.

Except when I went to switch tanks, I discovered someone had tossed a cleaning rag on top of it and the "full" replacement tank was actually empty.

So now I'm sitting on the couch waiting for the gas truck.

The funny part? When I don't need gas, I swear that truck drives by ten times a day. Today? Nothing. I've been waiting over an hour.

Instead of cooking, Chiqui and I are currently hard at work on an important quality-control project: testing the comfort level of the couch. So far, results are excellent. We're making the most of these unexpected snuggle breaks while we wait for the elusive gas truck to appear.

Running a business here means shopping at multiple stores without a car, carrying groceries through town, working around utility interruptions, and preparing everything from scratch using the freshest ingredients I can find.

Some days it feels like an obstacle course.

But I love what I do.

And that's part of what you're supporting when you order from Gastroventures. You're getting meals made with fresh local ingredients, prepared from scratch, and you're avoiding all the shopping, chopping, cooking, troubleshooting, and waiting-for-the-gas-truck headaches yourself.

So while Chiqui and I sit here listening for the sound of a propane truck, thank you for supporting my little business and making all of these adventures worthwhile. ❤️
