We believe certifications based on trust and collaboration work better than those based on control and inspections.

That’s why we adopted Participation Guarantee Systems.

All of the participants to the Coffee Coalition agreed since its creation to follow clear guidelines: producing good clean and fair coffee for all ☕

From the Manifesto to the Guarantee sheet used in field visits, the whole process is participative.

We wanted a system in which farm reviews feel more like field trips rather than inspections, This method shows knowledge exchange and cooperation push us to improve more than competition.

Marta Messa is the director of Slow Food Europe and, since June 2022, Secretary General of Slow Food International.
Together with Alice Poiron, host of the Slow Food Goes Brussels podcast, in the last episode they discussed food policies and the feeling we are going backwards.

🎧 “The war in Ukraine was really just the last drop. In our food systems, countries depend more and more on food imports for their food security. The war is just the cherry on top after the few years of the pandemic and the financial crises.”

That is especially true in a number of countries in Eastern Africa, that is largely depending on inputs from other countries. Climate change, war, the pandemic, they are just worsening a systemic problem.
Now industrial lobby groups and conservative policymakers are trying to convince us that we have no choice but to get rid of environmental constraints in farming to increase production or citizens would go hungry.

Listen to the podcast to unveil this unhealthy web of connections holding us back from moving towards a more sustainable food system that ensures food security.
Food is political and it concerns us all.
