THEME: DESTINIES ARE CRYING, WHERE ARE THE LIBERATORS?
PART 5
Judges 6:27, 31 Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father's household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.
And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.
The battle against destinies is the LORD'S battle.
In the passage above, we see a part of the story of Gideon, a judge of Israel.
Gideon obeyed God's command to destroy his father's altar to Baal and cut down the Asherah pole beside it. Because he feared his family and the people of the city, he chose to do it at night rather than during the day to avoid confrontation. After Gideon destroyed the altar, the people of the city were angry and wanted to kill him. Joash, Gideon's father, defended him by challenging the people: If Baal was truly a god, he could defend himself. Joash argued that anyone who defended Baal should be put to death because Baal should be able to take care of his own matters.
These verses highlight themes of obedience to God, fear of human opposition, and the impotence of false gods. Gideon's actions, even though done secretly out of fear, led to a confrontation that proved the powerlessness of Baal and affirmed the true God's supremacy.
Which is that altar that has held destinies in chains? Which is that altar that you keep protecting yet it is holding generations hostage? Are you the Gideon that has been sent to destroy the altars of Baal to liberate us? These altars are powerless before the supreme power of the LORD Almighty. As you arise this morning, ask God to grant to you the wisdom to destroy these altars of Baal.
PRAYER: Father, grant to me the grace to go through the destruction of these altars to liberate my generation in the name of Jesus Christ.
Amen
