Established in 1991, and located in a charming 'equestrian pocket' on Vancouver's upscale westside, this unique area called Southlands is a horse friendly enclave right in the city. Large lots and small acreages house many stables, and it is not unusual to see horses and their riders go by our gates. With delicious free coffee always on hand, many people tell us that they come down to the nursery just to experience the beautiful atmosphere.

In October, the Vancouver garden slows down as warm summer colors mix with cool fall rain. Japanese maples stand out with bright red, yellow, and orange leaves against dark green fir trees, while late flowers like dahlias, anemones, and lingering roses keep blooming next to tall, swaying grasses. Fresh autumn rain brightens up leaves, evergreen shrubs, and colorful berries. Soil covered in fallen leaves is moist and easy to work with, making it a great time to clean up lawns, plant spring bulbs, and put garlic in the ground before winter arrives.

As Canadian Thanksgiving approaches, Southlands Nursery transforms into a vibrant autumnal display filled with an incredible variety of harvest pumpkins and winter squash. Tables and straw bales overflow with classic orange jack-o’-lanterns alongside heirloom treasures. Woven into displays of colorful ornamental gourds and fall foliage, these hardy squash serve double duty, adding rustic charm to Thanksgiving front porches before making their way into warm kitchen soups, roasts, and holiday pies.
